Rome: Total War startup problems
Hi there,
I've had RTW a long time, and never had any technical problems, until today when I tried to edit the Data file.
I replaced the export_descr_buildings.txt with a modified version I found here
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=370983
And now it simply doesn't go past the first screen when you load it up (the one with disclaimers and copyright information etc).
I know it will work if I uninstall and reinstall the game, but I really would like to use this modified data. Any ideas?
Once again I don't know if it makes any difference but my copy of the game is very old, I think 2004.
Thanks for any help!

Delete the map.rwm and start a new campaign.

Re: Rome: Total War startup problems
The link I posted says that editing that .txt file is save compatible, and I can't get as far as the opening menu to start a new campaign. I'm literally stuck at the first screen you see when opening the game.

Try it my way and prove me wrong. I'd love to be proven wrong on this one.

I'll give it a go now, I hope you're right! Just making sure you'd fully grasped the situation.

Re: Rome: Total War startup problems
Sorry for the double post.
I did what you said, I can now get onto the main menu, but my save from before I replaced export_descr_buildings.txt with the modified version isn't working. This despite the fact that the thread says it is compatible with existing saves.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Rome: Total War startup problems
To be honest in RTW or M2TW, I have yet to have one save compatible. Check with the author of the file.
