Also it was chambered for the 7.62×39mm cartridge (Soviet), not the 7.62×51mm NATO.
A very strange choice, as if the Chropei company were trying to make sure their bid would be rejected.

I understood it was never a serious bid, but more of an strategy by Choprei (a chemicals company) to tool up for weapons production, no doubt expecting to pick up the production contract for whichever AAR production license was eventually purchased. Further, Soviet cartridges are a lucrative market in the middle east and Greece is ideally placed to service that market. A way for Choprei to double down? ... or am I just too cynical.

It makes sense in a "wishful thinking" on the part of the company sort of way.
The EVO industries had already been set up.
It's not like the government would let that sit idle.
If Chropei had been awarded the contract it would have been the EVO to produce the rifle.
Business wise, competitive advantages for exports are -more frequently than not- built on top of economies of scale already created by domestic market success.

Yep, looks like a deadly little unit, seen here used by the British, French and US.

It was common, but rather less than spectacular. While its main purpose was to destroy machine gun nests and light fortifications on battlefield, it was hampered by the low mobility, being crew served weapon, low range due to low muzzle velocity, and the limited lethality of the small projectile. However, it was successfully employed as aircraft armament on SPAD S.XII, and as main weapon of first US tanks-M1917, a licence-built version of Renault FT.
