The Walkabouts - Drunken Soundtracks
subtitle: Lost Songs & Rarities 1995-2001

The 2CD album released 2002 contains 29 tracks with the subtitle background, speak, mainly outtakes from said former album releases until 2001.
While the kinda dry wit is, both CD's, and all its tracks, have the quality for two single regular album releases, fe. like best of collections.

Very highly recommended product of one of the best bands ever walked on earth.

The Walkabouts - Travels In The Dustland

The last regular studio album of this amazing band, released 2011.
Unfortunately i've read on the english Walkabouts wiki page, the band has been disbanded, which makes me sad, and i still hope it's a false info.

The 11 tracks of album are divided in 4 parts telling a story, with the following titles:

The Walkabouts - Train Leaves At Eight

It was this album released 2000, which convinced me, that The Walkabouts are one of the most outstanding American bands.

I formerly knew (owned) their albums Nighttown (released 1997, which had quite fame) and Trail Of Stars (released 1999), which were both great (and already pretty special),
but then this release of 14 covered songs by European artists made them totally unique, very special artists in my book. Needless to say that i collect all their albums since that time.

The album is divided in two parts with according titles, each 7 songs: South and North.

The Walkabouts - Devil's Road

I'm still on my nostalgy trip for this amazing band.
This album, released 1996, was the one which brought international or at least european fame for the guys from Seattle/US, and made them final a music critiques darling.
The album comes again, like all their works, with high quality songs without exception, here 11 tracks. It was also their first work, where they appear to work together with east european musicians, here the Warsaw Philamonic Orchestra.

In retroperspective, Chris Eckman, the songwriter, belongs (imo. objectively) to the damn best music writers, latest since the middle of the 1990s. The same can be said of the musical skills of the bandmembers, and it's imo. a kinda shame that this band didn't get much more fame during their time.

That said i still recommend solo works of Chris Eckman* and the Chris & Carla* albums, and Carla Torgerson* solo album, which are all of even Walkabouts* quality, as well as many collaborations, where Chris appears to be the producer.

Nice songs, esp. the ones from Garbage and Amy Winehouse. Have the according CDs (both are imo. must-haves for proper music collections, regarding contemporary music). As well as Sisters Of Mercy's Temple Of Love from your post further above.

The Walkabouts - Setting The Woods On Fire

Their album from 1993 with 12 tracks.
It's throughout a solid rock album where driving drums, bass and guitar dominate, layed over it is organ or piano or both, and sometimes pedal steel guitar. Few songs with string or horn arrangements.
A kinda dark country/folk power or folky punk rock with the one and other midtempo or baladesque country-folk song. Altogether the music from where they derive and always shines through in later albums.
What makes them besides the sound special is Chris Eckman's genie to create intelligent and/or poetry-like texts, and not at last Carla Torgerson's pretty unique voice.
