Icon5 Delaying battles - any effects?

When you start a battle, you get the option to delay it three times. This gives you a chance to wait until you get the right weather (e.g. rain/snow) or to choose a sunset/sunrise attack. In MTW 1 if you delayed the battle you got a smaller deployment area and had to start closer to the enemy. After three delays there would be an announcement "The enemy is apon you!" but I don't see that in M2TW. Does the same thing happen in MTW2? Is there any advantage to a sunset or sunrise attack (I can't tell which is which until deployment starts)? It would be nice if a sunset attack got you the "night attacker" trait. Are there any other uses for delaying the attack?

I only know of two effects of delaying the attack: you might get better weather and reinforcements will be less likely to be delayed.
As for gaining the "Night Fighter" trait because of a late afternoon battle, I don´t know - though it kind of makes sense that your general would at least be more likely to gain that trait after that...

I've always wondered and I'm sure you all experienced this. Let's say you start a battle and it's afternoon and during the battle it gets dark outside. If your general has the night fighter trait will he gain the additional comanding stars during the battle ? (because when you started it it was still day light outside)
Înfrânt nu eşti atunci când sângeri,
nici ochii când în lacrimi ţi-s.
    Adevăratele înfrângeri,
    sunt renunţările la vis.

    No, I don´t think so.

Since a generals´ command ability doesn´t count in battles that he´s not leading himself (through autoresolve), his bonuses in that area logically doesn´t matter there.
At least, I´m pretty sure that the generals command ability doesn´t matter when you´re leading the battle yourself...

Weather effects morale and arrows. A rainy thunderstorm will make troops miserable, and a windy dust storm will make arrows less accurate.

Also for visuals. Fighting in thick fog is the worse thing ever.

Yes, it is the first effect of delaying for me. Even if you are the best, if you don't see your ennemy, you loose.

Your general's command ability within battles gives all of your troops better morale. A unit will fight much longer while pressed from all sides with a 10 star general hiding in the back of the map than that same unit fighting without the general. In N:TW (I think it may be in E:TW too) your general gives a morale boost when he's near his units.

Yes, units gets a morale boost when the general is nearby - but I´ve never seen any proof that his command ability would affect how great the boost is.
Increased morale due to the generals´ abilities should logically be caused only by traits and retinue/ancillaries that actually state "+1 morale" or something similar.

I am also familiar that chivalry/dread affects morale as well, but it doesn´t seem likely that his mere command ability would do the same...

As far as I know, the general's command stars affect the radius of effect of his command abilities - the more stars, the more troops he affects at once. I know bad weather affects morale in real life but didn't know that was so in the game, is there any proof of that? The worst visibility I've seen is a night battle in SS, you really can't see a thing.

What about a thick fog in the Mezoamerican jungle?
