AVLVS AVRELIVS DOLABELLA

Aulus Aurelius Dolabella is the elder son of Marcus Aurelius Dolabella a rich man from the ordo equester who belongs to a plebeian family (Aurelii Dolabelliones) which have never held a consulship.

Aulus is a strong-will youth who was raised by some of the best greek tutors around, the syracusans Atalikles and Pormenion, and he is very fluent in greek and is accostumed to rethoric; In spite of this, he grew displeasing foreign costumes, specially the greek ones, which Aulus seemed as decadent. Aulus also very cunning, reserved and says just what he needs to.

Being a plebeian, Aulus is likely aquitance to the party of the populares, but, as clever as he is, he never speak out of his political likeness. He knows that the only why to gain friends from both sides of the coin, he must remain neutral, at least know he isn't that influential. What he firmly believes, is that Rome must not lose his traditions and virtues.

Aulus is single, as his father is looking for a very influential daughter of a senator to marry him with.

*Dolabella means hatchet (little ax) and was the name given to Aulus' ancestor by his fellow bussinessman, since he used to be a lumberjack back in Capua.

The Aurelii Dolabelliones are a plebeian branch of the gens Aurelia. Hailing from Capua, back in the times of the Second Punic War, the ancestor of Aulus, Aulus Aurelius Dolabella Maior a lumberjack who moved to Rome looking for better chances in life; there he founded (with money he took on loan) a succesful trading company which provided to the Roman armies at Hispania with provisions. Paying off his debt, Aulus, and then his son, Marcus, started, an almost monopolic trading relationships with the ptolemaic kingdom of Egypt, providing the people of Rome with cheap wheat. The youngest son of Marcus, Caius, was the first Aurelii Dolabelliones which held a magistrate office. From now on, the family enjoyed a prestigious number of members who held important magistrate offices, but always failing to acquire the consulship.


MARCVS AVRELIVS DOLABELLA CLAVDVS

The father of Aulus, Marcus Aurelius Dolabella Claudus, is one of the most succesful businessmen of all the Republic of Rome, which means he is one of the richest men in Rome, altough this doesn't mean he's that influental, since he have never held any magistrature.

When he was young, Marcus joined the the army garrisoned in Hispania as part of the equites, but was soonly licensed when his turma suffered an ambush by the local celtiberian tribes. His foot was injuried and he was never able to properly walk again, earning the agnomen "Claudus" (crippled) for that reason.

Marcus Claudus is a very kindly man, which always look for his friends, since he believe that doing favours is the only way to earn people's trust.

He is the owner of Dolabella fleet trading company, which has the main trade rights with Ptolemaic Egypt.
