    Default is there a solution....

to the old man syndrome thing?

is it a bug, or working as desired?

is it supposed to be a lead up to a rebellion, in which case, how many turns have to pass before the buggers rebel (constantly losing money and population is a pain in the rear)?

how to solve it if it isnt a lead up to a rebellion?

please i need to know this as its bugging the hell out of me and ruining my game as the Romans.....

    Yes, retire them.

All my Governors transfer their retinue at 60 and then either: stay in place if they are providing value; or retire to a villa in the countryside if not.

Pre-reforms they are probably going to stay loyal; post reforms keep an eye on them, those that go down to zero loyalty are separated and could, as some do, either go off and reconnoitre the enemy, or seek pirates in single Triremes.

Retirees are excellent places to attach: Corrupt Judges; Sly Advisors; poor Scribes; Mistresses; and the odd dodgy character.

Younger, but poor, characters make excellent repositories and sharers of good retinue.

That all said, dvk' has been looking closely at the seeming plethora of senior positions that attract negative loyalty and is reviewing them. Remember, this is a Beta Test. It would really help to have accurate detail and examples of what you think is awry.

I'm not talking about problems with literally OLD characters, i'm talking about characters of all ages suddenly not being able to move more than 3 'squares' on the campaign map, whilst lowsing every trait and ancillery as well as losing all stats and generally causing a bad time in their respective city, even when many of them are good/competant governors.

strange thing is, if i move them out and wait a turn, they go back to normal. Well, mostly normal. Their Stats (management, loyalty, command etc) get maxed out (10 points in each) and some get all the best traits too. Their movement range also goes back to normal, even if they previously had negative impacts on their movement range.

I remember reading on another thread that this thing happens just before a rebellion, and it did the firt time it happened. The rebellion was very small though, only 4 settlements out of 120 settlements. It also only happaned after i took all the effected generals out of the settlements. AND the effected settlements were only the first half of the empire (the first 60 i had/conquered).

Which leads me onto another problem. My rebellions are delayed. The first one was supposed to happen when i got 75 (or is it 80? or 85?) settlements but it didnt happen till i got 120. Which means that the second rebellion is apparently delayed, but this bug/aspect of the game where my generals become bitter, crappy old men is supposed to happen just before, but they have been like that for 3 turns already and no rebellion......

for the first point, can you take 3 screen shots, 1 of them before they leave the settlement, one when they've moved out and one after they regain the traits. You only need to do it for one of the characters that is showing this behaviour.

[edit]Wait - don't forget as per Tone and DVK in this thread, there is a 2nd rebellion that is going to happen. You will get some governors/generals who rebel no matter what you do, hell you could set them up with a personal harem and it would make no difference. If that is where you are at, then you need to accept it is going to happen and try to recover your Empire.

However, the rebellion seriously should not be delayed until 120 settlements the first rebellion is in the first 3-5 moves when the Roman rebellion occurs in Southern Italy, in the 2nd which is much more extensive, it should be about 85 settlements.

It usually fails if a save has been corrupted somewhere along the line.

I had the 1st rebellion, at the very start. But i thought there were supposed to be two rebellions that involve the roman rebels after that? one at 85 settlements and another when i get close to or at 130 settlements?

i'll put the screenshots up in the next post.
