    Default Meereen [SPOILERS]

What do you think Daenarys should have done in Meereen? Do you think the situation was salvagable?

I personally think that she should have stormed the temples to look for the Sons of the Harpy. Admitedly, there would have been a lot of bloodshed, but it would have ended the threat then and there. She had a large army of Unsullied capable of defeating pretty much anyone, so I don't think that there was a military danger, and the people wouldn't complain about a few dead slavers.

and maybe i may be possible that the graces of the themples are the masterminds behind the son's of harpys since you know the chief pristeas of the greaces always urged dany to marry hizdar she urged her to make peace with yunkay on the yunkish tearms so maybe the greaces controll the harpys sons

    she should have either

    A) gone through the executing hostages everytime a soldier is killed

    B) every soldier/civilian killed = a hostage serving permamently under danaerys and never being allowed to return.

    C) destroy all the nobility including the children

    D) like C but make the children lose their status as nobles

or my personal favourite at the moment. every soldier/civilian killed = a quarter of the total wealth of any random harpy family being confiscated along with possible estates as well. can be used in combination with B or C or even escalated to A

Sack all of the noblemens pyramids and kill them all. Then when the yunkish marched against Astapor, march out and take Yunkai itself and sack it aswell. With Yunkai sacked and burning she should have marched on the yunkishmen besieging Astapor and hit their siege lines in the rear.

My main issue with Danaerys is how stupid she acts. Yes, it`s in character for her and acting different would actually be "not true to the character" but if you think about how much good advice her advisors gave her..

Even she should know that she shouldn`t try to destroy the slave trading business in one fell swoop. The whole economy of essos depends on it.

Freeing the slaves upon conquering meereen? Yes, not too bad. But she could have kept the fighting pits open-> Panem et circenses.

Sons of the Harpy? Easy. Kill the nobles. Sack their pyramids. She had no qualms about killing slavers earlier, but no, she won`t kill those that kill their men every night.

Outlawing slavery? Ohhh, as some pointed out some people are comfortable with being slaves. She should have allowed the poor to sell themselves into slavery if they want right from the start. And what about criminals? She could simply sell those into slavery. Sure, the other cities would get less slaves than before but at least they would get some and wouldn`t be so eager to wage war against her. She should also have hidden her intentions to free ALL slaves in essos- Hell, if you haven`t the might to achieve something like that yet you don`t make bold claims.

    Not that it matters.
I guess she will assemble a Dothraki horde and will attack the siegers just in time, while barristan sallies forth and the second sons turn their cloak again. Mayhaps even Victarion will arive in time and will smash the fleet of the slavers- Before trying to steal her and her dragons.

Victarion should have no trouble burning the slavers ships, like he did in Lannisport. The slavers seem to be a disorganized rabble, I doubt they can stand against the might of the Iron fleet.

Honestly, since Dany's Khalasar is so small numerically, I think the idea of trying to hold the Cities in Slavers Bay was foolhardy. Too many cultural differences for her to successfully assimilate the elites, and outlawing slavery (their primary trade) left her weak ergonomically. It probably would have been better to just sack the cities, gather up the slaves and buy as many ships as possible to get out of there. Perhaps take another city with less cultural differences to serve as her base camp. Perhaps work out an agreement in Pentos or one of the Free Cities, since she was raised among the free cities she would probably have an easier time working with the elites there as she wouldn't have to navigate the murky cultural milieus like in Mereen.

The Dothraki don't attack the Slavers bay cities because the cities are so integral to the slave trade. Danaerys knows this, so why not just burn/raze each city to the ground? Its not like the cities could hate her any more, and it would probably put a dent in slave trading.

But all I have brought to Slaver's Bay is death and ruin. I have been more Khal than queen, smashing and plundering, then moving on.
She doesn't want to create a trail of corpses and fire behind her.

I personally think that Daenerys actions were not wise. However, I do not believe they are necessarily a bad thing. She has never had to rule a city before and never experienced trying to rule over a hostile population. She is still a young girl and still thinks like one, it is understandable. She sees herself as the savior of the people and does not want to resort to cruelty. She believes that she can win the people over by showing compassion and mercy. The problem is that complying with her runs directly contrary to the personal interests of the slave owners. I also understand her not wanting to kill the children serving as her cup bearers. However, what she should have done is come up with some other form of non-fatal punishment to inflict on them, like possibly forbidding them to return home until the killings cease. Also, having the children serve as cupbearers is a remarkable opportunity that she is wasting. Raise the children to believe in your perspective after you have already taken them away from their parents and when the current generation dies out, you will have a compliant nobility. I myself do believe she should have stripped the nobles of their titles if she did not want to outright kill them and replace them with her own supporters. I myself might have tried her approach but when it became apparent that it would not work, I would have changed my approach and gotten much more harsh. I personally think that Daario is right. All King's are butchers, its the ones who like it we call mad or cruel. What she needs to show the people is that she is a kind and compassionate ruler, but can get tough and brutal when she needs to. However, from what she says during her last POV chapter, I believe she has learned from her mistakes and will change her approach. I believe that she will try to convince Khal Jhaqo to side with her. The appearance of a Dragon will certainly be enough to get him to at least talk to her and as long as she stays close to Drogon, all she needs to do is mount him and take off and the Dothraki will be unable to fight her. Also, I do not think that Jhaqo was one of Drogo's bloodriders, they were all killed in the fight with Danny's bodyguards trying to stop Meeri Maz Duur's blood magic. While this is the wisest choice, I do not know if it will be what she will do. She holds a grudge against them and has sworn vengeance against them for Ereoh. However, if she convinces them to join her, however, then that is the game changer right there. She can fall on the rear of the slavers while they are distracted fighting against Barristan's sally. I am also convinced that Tyrion will convince the Second Sons to turn their cloak again. Victarion will arrive at some point as well. Victarion is a superior admiral and they are not expecting his attack. Combine those two, and you have an unstoppable force that will crush the slaver fleet. The better part will be if she manages to fool the Slavers into thinking that that Dothraki horde is actually on their side.

How much you want to bet Jhaqo and Mago walk up to threaten her and one "dracarys" latershe has herself a khalasar again. Like you said she definetly has a grudge against them.
