Default How can I strengthen my army?

I have been playing a lot over the past week since I got my new computer, about 80 hours and doing mostly sieges but over the past two days I have started doing 1v1 matchmade games.

I have been trying a variety of armies from ninjas core to katana core to monks.

The army I have had the most success with is usually:
    2 great guard
    4 or 5 nagi monks/katana sam
2 yari cav or 1 fire cav
    Matchlock warrior monk
    Rest on nagi attendants

In 14k I add more cav and whichever core I am using.

I usually use untrained fugu, shoguns emissary, famous armoury and trading post.

The thing is I know the army's I use are not the most efficient or effective so I am looking for help on what to choose what upgrades and retainers etc.

I use so much cav because I struggle to win cav battles and I find that if I win the cav battle I win the game or just kill their general because they don't have enough cav to deal with mine.

I have been researching and seen people speak about a lot of different strategies so on a side note what is OP, UP and how do people get 26 attack monks and loan swords? Is that still viable?

cant edit posts for some reason but also, what upgrades should i put on fire rockets? i put 3 into accuracy and am now thinking missile damage since they don't have much ammo to benefit from reload speed.

Give fire rockets 3 accuracy, one reload and 3 range. They should have 325 range. I do recall some people here in TWC saying missile damage does make artillery kill more men, but I'm not sure about that (like when you see all of those guys getting lauched, but they get back up on their feet). 26 attack monks are probably impossible, but loan swords can easily get 17 attack. I would trade that matchlock monk for a matchlock ashigaru with rapid volley, just because they're so cheap.

Is reload worth it? I usually run out of ammo insanely fast.

Ok it's just i saw a post to do with really high attack loan swords but it was from like a year ago.

What is the best general build at the moment? and are there any units i should look out for to make sure I dont upgrade them wrong? i put damage into heavy gunners and mounted gunners before i researched so they are basically done for and i know reload and accuracy but things like great guard, katana samurai, warrior monks. How should I upgrade them? Is there an easy guide to all this stuff somewhere?

    GG: 4x attack, 2x defense
Katana: 2x attack, 1x defense, 1x morale (~1150 koku) or only 2x attack
Monk: 2x attack (960 koku) or 2x attack and 2x defense (~1000 koku) or 2x attack and 4x defense (>1200 koku

gg, go for 2 atk, 1 def, or for 4 atk and 2 def, with 6 upgrades they cost about 1600
kat sam, 2 atk or 4 atk, 1 def, 1 moral with 6 upgrades and traiding post they cost about 1064 koku
yari cav, 4 atk and 2 def, 1190 koku??
i prefer monk cav, with 1 atk, 3 def, and 2 bonus vs cav, they cost 1094 koku with trading post and will beat yari cav most times
don't know, how to upgrade nagi monks, prefer nagi sams over them, i would use vanilla ones or with 4 def and 2 atk

for matschlocks, always 2 reload, 2 accuracy, 125 range and rapid fire
