Launcher hangs up (Steam version)

Hello, after having some technical difficulties with my last RS2 install, I re-installed the mod on a clean RTW Gold and the 2.5 patch. I followed the install instructions to the letter but whenever I try to run the game through the launcher it just hangs up. No crash, music keeps playing but nothing happens. I can't even close the launcher and have to use the task manager to close it. I recall having this problem with my last install but I got around it by launching directly from the game in Steam, which I suspect was the source of my difficulties then. I searched the forums a bit but only found one other person with this same problem but no answer.

Also, I can't edit the preferences from the launcher as it tells me that it cannot find the preferences file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using the right exe? If memory serves me correctly you have to install RSII in Alexander TW if you want to use Alexander.exe

Using BI.exe and my OS is WinXP 32-bit. I'll try RTW.exe and see if that changes anything.

Still doesn't work when I use RomeTW.exe.

disable aero - works in some cases.

I am also having this issue. Has anyone found a work around for it yet? What is aero?

In order to edit preferences.txt, there must first BE one. Each campaign will create it's own file, but it isn't created in the right place until you actually go into the campaign Menu first.

I am having the same problem, I start the launcher, the steam option is yes, and I click play and nothing happens. Anyone can help or point me in the right direction please?
