Default Most profitable regions in FOTS

What has been the most profitable region for you?

The most profitable province I have owned was Higo on Kyushu island, fully developed I was pulling in 13,870 per turn.

    Higo

The most profitable region for me is also Higo, it is at 9900. Does northern japan even have super wealthy regions?

Sure, any province with a port and Very Fertile soil can be very wealthy. The northern areas have a several of these regions.

Probably Kii, with a factory, Mahjong parlour and Zaibatsu fields. Got that to around 13k too by late campaign. Seems like the large amount of turns in the FotS campaign (along with Geisha at max. rank entertainer) allows for some excellent town growth strategies.

Fukushima is pretty awesome with Z Fields and French District. But I dont have much XP of any other province since its so hard to win provinces when playing as Aizu due to Fukushimas huge size and eventually being surrounded by enemies. It's keeping me alive.

Build Railroads! The northern railroad line has a great setup.

Currently in around turn 250 of my Jozai campaign my top 2 settlements are:
    1. Shimosa - 14,847
    2. Kazusa - 14,636

While the "meagre: farming in these settlements might make this surprising, a good portion of that is town wealth that has accumulated over the course of the campaign. Kazusa has the most, with 6,372 town wealth, and Shimosa has 5,598. I've kept high level Geishas in both settlements since the beginning, so that helped. Also, in Shimosa I hae a Junin Ryogae and a Silk Manufactury. In Kazusa I have a Yazuka office and a Cotton Processing Plant. If I had built up a settlement with very fertile soil similarly, it would currently be at around 18,000 province wealth!

Out of curiosity, i just loaded up my final save of my Satsuma campaign, and at turn 245 my most profitable regions were Higo at 15,323 and Hizen at 15,070. I didn't put 2 of the top level inns/factories in each settlement as I did with Shimosa and Kazusa (see my post above), or these settlements certainly would have been more wealthy.

I haven't tried it yet but I'll go with Inaba. smugglers(no requirements to build), fertile soil, port made into a foreign trade district, high level buildings. You'd have to get it fast so it's probably best for someone that has the Obama clan.

You're not pulling in 13,870. You're pulling 5600 or so
13,870 is the province's wealth. You get only the tax portion of it.

My starting region as Nagaoka was fully upgraded with all the economical buildings and a national railway.

It was quite wealthy, and because of all the defences I only left a paltry 1 republican line to defend (which held off a full stack because castles are made of awesome and candy)

Any region with fertile soil and gold mines. I like Sado just for its gold mine.

I'm not sure that there is such a region. I believe that most (all?) the regions with goldmines have meager soil.

On a somewhat unrelated topic, has anyone else noticed that there is exactly ONE region in the game with average soil?? The region is Sapporo, and apparently, having average soil is anything but average!

Sorry, I did not mean all gold provinces have rich soil, just that either of those give lots of money. I don't remember Sado's soil type but the gold mine by itself is a huge cash cow. As for differences in region soils, I'll have to play more campaigns to know exactly how many average soil provinces are there.

Okay, if you would have said "Any region with fertile soil or gold mines" I would have understood you correctly, but you said and. Now I understand what you meant though!

I just did a quick check in my completed Satsuma campaign and the 3 regions with the greatest wealth potential are:
Hizen - has very fertile soil, a coal mine, and a port
Higo - has very fertile soil, a iron mine and a port
Kii - has very fertile soil, silk, and a port

It's hard to say which has the best potential of the 3, as the more wealth provided by the specialty building, the less town growth per turn. Over time that bonus to town growth is going to add up, and perhaps surpass the direct wealth bonus of others. At any rate, if you have any of these settlements, you can easily turn any of them into financial empires on their own right!

Make sure to put 1 of the most advanced industrial buildings (Cotton processing plant, silk manufactory) in the settlement, and one of the most advanced Inn buildings (Yazuka Office, Junin Ryogae), build a trade port, or better yet, a foreign trading district, and voila... you have the most profitable region in FotS!

Although I'm tempted to build as many economy buildings as I can in every province, I can't because one slot often has to be reserved for police stations to neutralise the public order penalty from industrialisation. Police stations become even more critical if you plan on going republic because I think you need to upgrade them to the top level to increase your republic influence effectively.

Well, remember that you can build your towns to prefectures which allows you to construct 5 buildings. I usually end up with 2 financial boosters, a police station, a military building (for the extra garrison soldiers) AND improved towers.

The only exception would be those settlements that I build up as military centers, particularly those with blacksmiths where I forgo all financial buildings in order to include a barracks, cannon maker, and a dojo in addition to a firing range (in most cases) and a police station. It's also fun to build up a military center where there is a Buddhist temple and add a drill school for some insane charge bonuses!! Your cavalry will become charging terrors! Heck, so will your levy infantry trained from such a settlement!

Provinces with very fertile. Very fertile beats gold mines by alot which is sad.

This is true. If we take Sado as an example, if you build the ore processing plant (2,000 koku in wealth) + the fully upgraded meager farm (2,574 in wealth) the total wealth for that settlement is 4,574.

Compare this to a settlement with very fertile soil and no specialty building such as Tsukushi, which brings in 5940 from farming alone with a fully upgraded farm. That's a 1,366 more koku than the settlement with the gold mine... and speaks to some mind blowing farming!

Gold? Hell no? I've got this farm over here. I'll stick with that. You can keep your silly gold mine.
