    Icon7 Noob questions

    Hi guys,

I'm very new to the Total War series and I'm about to purchase M2TW + Kingdoms.

How does Kingdoms work exactly? Can i play the vanilla game with Kingdoms updates, extra factions and bug fixes and improvements or is it best to play Vanilla then move onto Kingdoms?

Are there any unofficial bug fixes or mods that I should download that fix the inevitable balancing and bugs that haven't been fixed (I come from the Civ4 series where there was an unofficial patch)

Are there any vital graphics updates/mods that improve the visuals that are worth downloading?

Many Thanks for your help and advice.

    Daan

    yes, yes there are
I would advise you to start with Retrofit mod (it balances the game, a few bug fixes etc.) + GUAM (it's an addon pack for Retofit that adds all the units from all the kingdoms campaigns, it's a must in my opinion)

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=135950 (GUAM)

later on when you are used to M2TW you should definetly install a big mod like SS6.4 or Third Age, you won't regret it, have fun

To me they're like different games. It depends on what you're in the mood for. The Kingdoms expansions are mainly concentrated theatres that break things down into greater detail in a smaller space. They'll often cover a certain time period that the region is famous for. The Grand Campaign of the main game is just that. It's a huge campaign with everyone involved, and because of it's scope, it's slightly more general than the others, but the factions are numerous, and it plays out over all of Europe, much of North Africa, the Middle East, Western Asia, southern Scandanavia and even the new world.

If I feel like delving more into the Crusades specifically, or Britain in the 13th Century, I'll load those Kingdom expansions up. If I want to engage in vast international diplomacy, I fire up the Grand Campaign.

Have fun! It's a wonderful set of games.

The kingdoms campaigns are all very good, you should try them all. I would recommend playing the Kingdoms Britannia campaign first as this doesn't have some of the complications (such as crusades and the pope) of the full campaign so it's a good way to learn the game. There are a couple of mods available for it but you will enjoy it out of the box. There are official patches available up to .05 that are a must, just search this forum to get them.

I would definitely play the Teutonic campaign as the Danish first, quickly build a strong economy with roads and farms then conquer the Norwegians.
Of course this is all after playing the tutorial in the base game, they all download like separate games, i was expecting it to be more like AOE but its more of a mix of Rise of Nations and Civilization with a great tactical battle gameplay, it almost runs as two games, a castle sim and a strong tactical battle sim.

Yes. Youd have to edit the .... i completely forgot. Im sorry but it is possible. You have to edit a notepad file. Event_world something and erase the gunpowder event. Darn im sry. I havent touched the folder in awhile. Ya know what i might be completely wrong.

You can google it or w8 for a more helpful member.

I find it odd that the very first thing you do with a new game is download mods and change it. Don't you wanna play vanilla first and see the appeal?

Nah, Mods truly show off the game, Vanilla is a pale comparison to them.
