Makes sense to me. I like it when "god" isn't able to stick up for themselves, and needs a lowly group of backwards-thinking humans to do their dirty work. Whatever happened to the good ol' days of "god" smiting people on "his" own time?

No Iraq was very westernised than they had to let Kuwait become independent and fundementalist. Than the US govt. had to get rid of Saddam who was probably one of the most secular non-fanatic and westernised arab leader ever in the middle east. Now Iraqs bound to be run by fanatics like the Kurdistan government the US formed which is persecuting Christians in Iraq now.

I haven't read the Koran, but doesn't Islam have Islamics smiting the infidels? Anyway, it seems to be a hate crime punishment gone to far. It could be, eventually, a crime to speak out against homosexuality at the pulpit because that would offend the homosexuals. So this is not just a curse of being a 'lowly group of backwards-thinking' people (which I take to mean you think them as inferior) but a warning as what the repression of freedom of speech could do to anybody in the name of either God or political correctness (which is aptly named for this as politicians only pass laws they think would keep them employed and empowered nowadays).

If you consider someone who is an idiot, or a group of people as idiots, then yes, I suppose you could infer "inferior". Blasphemy laws are some of the most ridiculous reasons why religion should be considered a form of mental retardation. Many of these groups - Islamic, Christian, etc, believe in an all-powerful being, who, as shown in religious fiction texts to be perfectly capable of handling "blasphemers" without human intervention whether it be in the real world or the imaginary place people go after they die. Floods, plagues, bears, instantaneous smiting - take your pick. Repression in the name of religion should be punishable by the international community - it is absolutely ridiculous to think that in this day and age laws like this get passed in the name of magical sky fairies, all in an effort to maintain some pseudo version of power. It's a joke.
