So Tyras has passed 60,000 and is still growing. Is this particularly typical? Even my capital has half that population and is further developed.

My first playthrough - I have no idea how - I achieved a population of 240,000 in Rome.
I thought it was .. normal, so I never looked at the trade details or interrogated why it never diminished. Now in my current playthrough I can't get Rome to stay anywhere above 45,000 or else it starts to decline.
Shame, I loved the idea of growing Rome to the size it was reputed to be![]()
Yeah, there are so many buildings that add to population increase in this mod that you can easily get many cities to ludicrously large populations, especially if they have grain imports i.e. Egyptian or Crimean regions. As long as you can keep up with public order, bigger is better. More people = more tax revenue.
All of the buildings...especially temples, that allow a small boost in law and happiness, can allow for much larger populations. It's odd, because the farming levels were all reduced quite a bit to allow more control over population. But, you can force growth if you wish by building population growth buildings. I like it, because it's a lot more realistic in big cities.

Heh you make it sound like population control buildings are OPTIONAL. With all the recruitment, enslavement, extermination and general plague and dismay; My cities always desperately need that boost. I've yet to build population reducing buildings in my two campaigns.
