Default 1.1 Allied States and Generals

To get it out of the way: I play on 1.1. Yes, I know 1.2 is better, but I can't get it to work on my comp, and now I have saves in 1.1 that I wanna finish before I try it again.

Anyway, here's my problem. I take over a city and put in an allied government. I recruit a general to run the town, but they always get the impostor trait (or, something like that. It causes increasing unrest). How do I get a ruler in those cities so I can manage to hold onto them?

You need to keep the general in the same settlement you recruited him( gov type 4) for one turn, converting him into a governor. Taking him out at the first turn makes him an allied general. The impostor trait is something you get when you put your own family member in settlement with the type IV gov. or by putting an allied general there.

I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but I think the client state thing was always a bit buggy (at least for me) in 1.1, it's one of the major things they fixed in 1.2.
