How disastrous can this be?

My campaign is/was going pretty good, loads of fun, decent relations with my neighbours, nobody is invading me except for the Carthaginians who won't give up after I conquered Carthage.. I decided to invade Egypt.. 5 full stacks, my greatest commanders etc., it was a great success!

And then this happens.. 14 or 15 full stacks of barbarians in northern Italy!!!

Now that is a challenge.. I was kinda wondering how much damage they can really do..? Are they scriped to invade all of Italy or will they just roam the map..? I will continue playing tomorrow.. but I was wondering if you guys had any experiences with such a situation (15 full stacks in your land while your entire army is on the other side of the map

).

Some advice is welcome !

1 Advice... always have some spy's near your neigbours, remeber this game will be totl war , so dont let any of your rivals build while u dont keep them in check :]

The advice girl popped up and told you that you've just bared witness (my phrasing not hers) to the Cimbri Invasion.

Good luck. (If you happen to have a really good diplomat laying around.. you could always ask them to go away. Who knows, stranger things have happened)

I didnt want the Cimbri invasion (it was too early for my historical tastes) Good thing I tend to save my game in different times. So when the Cimbri invasion took place i stopped playing and uploaded an older saved file but this time i didn't upgrade Askargas (i think the trigger is as you get closer to building an imperial palace not sure tho) and so far it has worked. many many turns later the Cimbri invasion still hasnt taken place

NO BANNERS OR BORDERS .....get spying ....fast!

The AI may have noticed that you sent most of your armies to Egypt so they capitalized. Even so, if you do have defensive armies, it's probably noticeable that you're paying for those extra armies that are far away.

In my campaign the Cimbri only had 5 stacks in northern Italy and I didn't own those parts yet as I was concentrating on getting the Reforms early and even when then I made peace with them and they went own to kick the free people and Averni and Boii ass.

Then they had a big country and came back to bit me in mine

took a while for me to break them, lost a few good praetorian armies, well just one but it still hurts)

I was hoping for some strategic advice, how to fight them in battle? and will they go for Rome?

i'm guessing hammer and anvil tactics could work with them but use caustion nonetheless cause their wolf/bear warrior units they have can really mess up the morale of your men so i'd say take out those first before they deal some serious damage and beleive me they can

Also you can try fight them on bridges and naroow passes. In places you cant fight more than 2 armies at the same time. Also you can use your own cities if they lay siege to one. Any good garrision with some proper walls can do damage beyond repair for an attacking army

Curiously I am wondering if, perhaps because you've put in a 4tpy sub-mod, that you have got a 'double-spawn'?

Assuming this is the Cimbri invasion, then there wouldn't have been any warning; spies and watching your borders wouldn't have achieved anything.

They are pretty touch customers and on Hard will provide hours of fun, I'm sure

! I assume you're on 0-turn, however, so you'll at least be able to raise the troops.

I will also be interested to see what they now do.....

you need use spys to find out there strengths or scout partys to engage them to calculate the power of the stacks, i would build a line of forts as a makeshift barrier and funnel troops to those forts and deal with them from there , this will stop them getting right through into italy {mabey} keep us posted , im interested to see how you deal wih This especialy cause there are lot of stacks and your using NO BANNERS OR BORDERS , cheers

lol it's a scripted event. the trigger is in the background script, I won't spoil it here. I'm yet to do a playthrough where Cimbri becomes a powerhouse that fast.

Ye but those number of stack is way too much.. it should spawn 7
Moreover those clearly seem boii at least to me... not cimbri
Something is definitely wrong if the 15 armies shown are full stacks

This beta needs more work, every faction i face has this many stacks , its ruining the game for me, free stacks in towns when ownd, and free silver upgraded army's poping up from no where...
