    Default Most explosive steamer?

I am fiddling around with naval vessels in Shogun 2: FotS, and i am coming across a repeating problem.

Is the Kasuga class more likely to explode than any other ship in the game?

Throughout my plays, it seems to reoccur all the time that broadsides and stray shots send my Kasuga ships flying in every conceivable direction.

They are really fancy and nice to use, but do they explode more than other ships? I'd hate to ditch them.

In addition, have any of you come around to properly testing the explosion rate of the ships in the game?

If it comes down to better plating, then that would be easy, although i don't think that reduces the rate.

Not sure, but there's gravity so that's a good start...

Well... as an observation I'd say that my iron clad ships seem to last longer in battle but once you run into the heavy Kotetsuironclads (or worse) you're certainly in trouble. I even fought one naval battle four times to try and work out tactics on how to deal with them with mixed results. I would say that armor piercing rounds are a must in that case however and certainly your ordinance has a bearing on how well you do in battle. Certainly, wooden vessels don't last as long as iron cladded ones but if you're out-ranged by a heavier ship, you're always going to be in trouble. Unlike the field artillery where you can effectively extend it's range in manual mode, that doesn't seem to be the case for the ships - so you can't even tweak range of your guns at all.
Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out...and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel. ..And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man"-- with his mouth.

The last ammunition research, advanced armor piercing or whatever it was, has increased range. The AI doesn't understand this so it can only be used when manually firing (either first person or the broadside buttons) and it seems to somewhat break AI in the sense that they sometimes won't respond to being under fire when you're shooting at them from maximum range with the AP ammunition.

From my experience, the ships that have a large visual engine department do seem to be more likely to explode than ones that only have a single chimney visible. But this could very well just be because I hardly ever use them myself but the AI uses them a lot, so I'd pay less attention to them blowing up than if it was one of my own ships.

    The Cleveland Steamer.

Lol but seriously a lot of people have problems with too common explosions. I say take it slow and try not to get too close when attacking. The ships aren't very mobile and take a while to turn so you can take some serious damage. Be patient and try and get the first volleys off.

It's more the fact that the AI is exploding than the Human player actually.

^Ah I see my mistake. Personally I have terrible luck with overheating engines. Fire invariably occurs.

I don't use them, simple as that.

I never use them either. Not worth the fire (and wasting time to repair) or risk of explosion.

In my games, my warrior ironclad caught fire at the second shot and surrender lately.

    The worst day in FoTS.

The paddlewheel corvette (is that the Kasuga?) seems to blow up more than the other ships. Perhaps the boiler is a bit exposed or fragile?

Against wooden ships, I start with solid shot at long range and then switch to explosive shells, but even then the targets tend to burn more than explode.

I see about one boiler explosion per 4 wooden ship destructions. Haven't seen any ironclads explode.
