Default Wait for a GOTY version?

I want to buy FOTS: But I always regret to have bought Empire and Napoleon too early, because of the following DLCs. Resently I´ve bought the GOTY version of Empire and Napoleon and at the first time I have the feeling that now the two games are complete. So now my problem: Should I buy FOTS, when there will be several DLCs released (will there be DLCs?)? I never buy DLCs on steam, always wait for a GOTY version, if I do so. Is FOTS so good, that its worth to buy it now, also that you don´t know, if there will be several DLCs to come? Or is it much better to wait for a GOTY version with ST2 (that I own, without the DLCs) and FOTS and with theire DLCs to wait for?

It's going to take a while until they release a GOTY. I would just buy and enjoy it. You already have stw2 so by buying the GOTY you are losing money that you can use to directly buy the DLC.

It's an interesting point you make here.
I did exactly the same you are suggesting with Mass Effect 2. I knew at its release that DLCs would have followed so I decided to just wait. I waited more than a year actually until I found a discounted version with all DLCs included.
FotS insted I bought at release date because I just wanted it too much, I couldn't wait at all.

So my advice is: if you like the game but you feel that you could wait, by all means do it. Wait and get a GOTY version with all extra content included.

EDIT: at the moment I am waiting for "Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning". I would really like to play it but DLCs are already being published and I foresee more of them in the future. Since I don't want to spend 100€ on a game and I want all the extra content, I will just wait some months until I find a better and more complete deal!

The Land aspect is fun as well, and if you've played Vanilla Shogun 2 then you likely know about the unrealistic aspect of Realm Divide. That has been included here again, but as an option in the form of a republic. I think this is a great solution and feels like its actually a realistic way of doing things.

It depends on your interests of course as to whether or not you would like it. If you like gunpowder warfare but without it being somewhat dull and poorly done as it was in Empire and to a lesser extent in Napoleon, then this is for you. Its my favorite TW release since MTW 2. Hope this helps.

EDIT: To respond to another post regarding the coastal defenses. I've fought 2-3 of these battles and have found that the AI handles these defense very poorly, and that even with 2-3 ships of mediocre quality I can seriously harm a full stack of enemy ships because of the AI's failure to destroy all of the batteries quickly. The batteries themselves have maybe 5-7 cannons(I didn't count) but they are very fragile. A volley or two from a couple of ships will easily take one out. On the Campaign map if you stay within the area of a ports attrition the damage can be quite humbling.

I made the mistake of leaving my main fleet with the British ironclad and a few Japanese ironclads in the range of an enemy military port for a single turn, and came back with all of them at 50% hull strength in just one turn. So attacking an enemy port is generally unnecessary, but the AI will waste its ships anyway and give you a marvelous chance to wreck their fleets. I actually managed to win (on normal) with 1 Japanese ironclad and 2 wooden hulled ships in my fleet against a full fleet of copper-plated enemy ships on the battlemap defending one of my trading ports.

This is a post I made in another thread responding to a similar inquiry, hopefully it helps=)

Thank you. I don´t know, if I can wait. I will try. When I see those ironclades I want to buy it. ST2 was a bit boring for me, but I guess FOTS is much more exciting, what I have seen.

What is the difference between DLC and GOTY?

GOTY (Game of the year edition) means that all patches, DLCs and expansions are included.

You may aswell if you've left it this late. I'd expect it end of 2012 (by then the new title would have been announced)
