Christian –Mori Exodus-
Tested and Complete on Legendary
Why Test strategies on Legendary?
-Because the way I see it if a strategy works on Legendary with so many factors against you then it can work anywhere. So that means its an effective strategy for all players of all difficulties, giving Vets of the series something to think about and have fun with while also giving newcomers some inspiration to think outside the box while honing their Total War Skills. Or atleast that was my attempt.......*shrug*
Why Choose to go Christian and Mori on Legendary?
-To get access to the to best mass produced ship in the game 2nd to only the Black ship which can not be built and has high upkeep costs. And it sounded like an insane challenge for myself.
Why did you do the Exodus to Kyushu?
-To take the game to a whole different level, and after a few attempts of playing Christian Mori on Legendary it seemed like the best solution, very unorthodox I will admit but I feel it produces the best results. And it makes becoming Christian alot easier and alot faster, but I will get into far more detailed explainations below.
Why should I do a Christian Exodus to Kyushu?
As Christian Mori relocated to Kyushu with my approach, the only diplomatic relations you have to worry about are with the Shoni at the very beginning. And on VH/L the AI is only good for Trading, selling military access to, and fighting other AI and wiping out their troops to gain experience for your Generals. Once you get Kyushu with Christian Mori the game is pretty much set in your favor till victory because placing Mori Nanban Tradeships (MNT)

and
(B) HereSpoiler Alert, click show to read:
This Means:
From (A) That the only way the other clans can ever pose a threat to you is by naval invasion, but with the MNT the will not be able to beat you or it will take them longer to avoid the ship giving you plenty of time to prepare. So for the Upkeep of 200 koku, you insure that the AI cannot harm you while you build up your economy.
From (B) That no ship can blockade you home port or past into your Southern territories without trying to fight your MNT or sail all the way around Shikoku.
By doing this you insure that the AI has to build a fleet and load an army on it, and then fight your navy which is a fight they will lose. So that means one MNT can wipe out not only the enemy navy but also the army they are ferrying across.
So with 2 MNT or 3 is you would like you can defeat any invading army for the upkeep of 400 koku (or 600 koku if you choose to have a third MNT), there is no other unit for its price or upkeep that can insure you win every battle by itself unless you count the Black ship whose upkeep cost 1200 koku.
The only units you are losing converting to Christianity and making an exodus to Kyushu are the warrior monk units, whose upkeep is the same as (bow monks are a little more) a MNT. But one bow monk or warrior monk cannot make the size of a difference as one MNT can.
Once you have this set up, the 4 trade nodes around Kyushu are as good as yours.
Economic and Military Sense of Exodus
Also Going to Kyushu and capturing Satuma will give you access to the Mori Unique sword infantry faster and they will be in better because Sasuma has a blacksmith in as well as sword dojo and military port. Staying in AKI the closest Blacksmith is Bizen, but Bizen province does not have access to a port so you cannot have upgraded Wako Raiders.
Holding the 8 provinces of Kyushu as the Mori gives you 3 VF farms, 4 Average farms, and 1 barren Farm. As well 5 ports, 1 School, 2 naval traditions, 1 Crafts (accuracy upgrades), 1 horse, and a smith. And you can protect all 4 trade nodes around Kyushu a whole lot easier than from you original home base in AKI.
All that and you can't be invaded, and once you send your Christian missionaries out of there after converting the provinces you burn a path of rebellions across nearly any province you come across.
So holding Kyushu this way makes no difference what the AI and your diplomatic relationship with the other Clans is, They can never harm you because they can never defeat you on the sea. And once you capture Shikoku you just have to launch a naval invasion to capture the Shogunate.
Another way to think of the Mori Christian Exodus to Kyushu, is that you are making Kyushu into Great Britain by making the enemies fight you at sea first. So Kyushu is much easier to defend and you don't need to worry about the AI's attitude toward you. I had every other clan at war with me at the same time (and never made peace) well before the RD and it never hurt my economy at all.
If you got Mori then I say go Christian to get the Mori version Nanban Trade Ship. How I went about it in my game was by doing these things the first few turns. If you do not go Christian as the Mori you are choosing not to use their best unit and what I consider a game changer. You must also relocate your clan (Exodus) To Kyushu.
Opening steps towards the Exodus
1.) Defeat the Army in your home region. Then send it back to the home base and recruit some cheap units and sell some military access to your neighbor to the east. And build another small bow ship, do not upgrade anything in your home region because you will be leaving it soon, and also turn the taxes up as much as you can.
2.) Take your army minus one of your two generals and board them on the boats (you should have 2 the starting one and the one you built) and send them to invade the only Christian faction south of the Shoni located in Bungo (as they already have a nanban port). Build some more cheap troops in your home region with your other general.
3.) Capture the Christian city and turn the taxes off in it. Do what repairs you need too and send your fleet back to pick up your other army and recruit two more units in your home region. Sell military access for 5 turns to the Shoni and the clan to the west of your Christian city and marry into the Shoni clan.
4.) Abandon you capital city let the revolting people take it or who every you will not need it any more, build a trade ship in your Christian city and sell military access to the clan to the east of your home region and get as much money as you can from them.
5.) Convert to Christianity and start conquering the Iso who should be locked into a war. Sell access and give access to the clan around you on the island to gain the much needed money. Pump out trade ships to get some trade nodes. Rush to get the Nanban quarter started and upgrade your new territory. Have one force invade to the south and one force to defend your capital.
A Must thing to do with the Christian Mori clan: put one of you extra generals on the Nanban trade ship because your enemies will attack it but the will get wiped out and this general will gain experience as well.
If you have the DLC build Wako raiders always instead of Katana samurai (better stats and one turn recruitment time and less upkeep cost) conquer the southern island and make it Christian and be sure to have a another Nanban trade ship at the land crossing so no armies in the north can invade the island or let one invade and then cut off its route of escape trapping it on the island.
Once you have the southern island and some Nanban trade ships up and the trade nodes controlled then the rest is “convert and conquer” because no one will be able to fight you on the sea.
This is how I did it. One other thing as well, for the Buddhist revolts that will happen on the southern island, I myself I let them revolt so my generals in the area can fight them and gain experience instead of sitting in the castle town twiddling their thumbs.
TL- DR: With Christian Mori Exodus to Kyushu 2-3 Mori Nanban tradeships will make it so no one can invade you if you located on Kyushu, at an Upkeep of 400-600 koku. and makes diplomatic attitudes/relationship towards you irrelevant as the AI cannot attack you without defeating your navy.
Thank you for your time and please feel free to ask me any questions and I’ll do my best to answer.
Good Luck
