    Default Morale Problem?

    Hiya,

I've noticed in the past few days that in sieges and sometimes field battles I have a problem with units routing. For example, today I besieged Patavium with large amounts of Italic Principes, Hastati and Triarii and a few Etruscan mercenaries, I ordered my Principes and Hastati into testudo for obvious reasons, but when they got close up to the wall I noticed they were exhausted, and pretty much immediately started routing as soon as they encountered enemies in the breaches of the walls. I thought Romans were better than that!

Is that supposed to happen? Is that realistic? I placed my general close to my men and did constant rallies but it didn't seem to help, its just as worse in field battles sometimes. I think that it's got something to do with exhaustion and amount of enemies surrounding my men. This of course would probably have an effect in real life... so I can understand why they would route due to being distraught over the number of enemies and being exhausted.

This problem however makes mostly sieges and sometimes field battles extremely hard to win, so I often end up auto resolving them which I don't want to do!

(Apart from that, I'm still really enjoying this mod, death to the Carthaginians! )

Thank you for taking your time to read this, any feedback would be most appreciated!

Not using the Roman Leadership traits and ancillaries properly can cause mass routs. Have you checked the following link?

As far as I know I'm not even using the Roman leadership system, however I just looked into the posts in that link and found out that I was using it without awareness. So maybe me not using the RLS properly caused the problem? I do not intend to use the RLS so I will try and disable it manually following some of the posts in that link.

You can't switch it on or off mid-campaign though.

Really? So I have to start a new campaign then? Oh well... I suppose i'll start a new Carthaginian one for now and start another Roman one once I'm ready.

The testudo formation is a bit dodgy, so it may also be an unintended consequence of using it.
