To kick off the Marian reforms, the still active duty Pre-Marian units, soon to retire to a life of wealth and prestige after their long and glorious service to Rome, have the honor of fending off the biggest invasion... ever...
I'm not kidding, Gaul, Carthage, and Macedon seriously don't want me to have the MArian reforms.
Gaul attacks each of my two bridge defense Legions with ~10,000 men each, (10 battles 5 per bridge-head)
Northern Legion is forced to fall back with immense casualties but having dealt the Gauls an insane loss rate of close to 40-1. (I know I know doesn't really count since they have to cross the bridge, push my lines back 200 meters, panick, run away and get massacred by Cavalry)
As 4th Legion falls back, 1st Legion prepares their troops for the coming offensive to push the Gauls back into their territory, as the 5th Legion, holding the southern bridge manages to survive the onslaught, achieving a kill ratio of 100-1 and massacreing the Gaulic Army.
Simultaniously, Macedon invades from the Northern Pass above Patavium and through the Peninsula.
Servius Petrius, the recently appointed Legate of Second Legion leads 2nd, 3rd, and 6th Legion through 8 tough defensive engagements in which the entire Macedonian Royal Guard, 4 Family members, their Leader, his successor, his successor, and several trusted Captains are killed by the excellent defensive ambushes led by Servius.
At the same time, the reduced Garrisons at Lylibaeum, Syracusae, and the Reserve Legion stationed at a fort in Central Cicily come under attack by Carthaginian forces, the Roman Navy is sunk, and 2 cities and a Legion are under siege.
The turn ends, I regain control, I counter attack the MAcedonians and push what is left of their army out of my lands...
1st Legion smashes the Gaulic invasion in the North West and regains the bridge.
The Reserve Legion of Sicily smashed their besiegers and frees Lylibaeum, who then recruit the new trainable Auxilia as the Legion advances towards Syracusae.
I think the Computer is a little ****** at me...
20,000 Gauls, nearly the same number of Macedonians, and 8,000 Carthaginians just attacked me on the same turn.
Took 4 hours of hard fighting, my chair now has a dent in it... I've worn out my brand new chair in one week of fighting my way through the last 5 turns necessary for the reforms to hit...
I can't wait to put this into story mode...
But to put it a bit into perspective I think I know why Macedon truly invaded me... they gave me a good and genuine offer of Protectorateship... and this is how I responded...
(Note my map is 20 years out of date, Macedon just recently vanquished the Scythians... ouchies...)
