Re: War of Vengeance / War of the Beard lore research, please help
Greetings, Elgi. I do not check COW forum very often nowadays, but I pledged my support, and by the all Ancestor Gods, support you I will. I'll expand this post later.
Nonetheless, I already sent you a map a rather LOOONG time ago. The link expired, so I'll do it again, but not now as I do not have time. Probably tommorow after schoo. Here's the most basic map, containing the most basic information: http://www.sendspace.com/file/imcgqu
That was the message that went with the map. It contains some very basic information
"DWARFS (marked blue on the map); Supreme Leader : High King Gotrek Starbreaker
Please note, though, that not marked settlements, such like Norscan settlements, Karak Dum, and all sorts of smaller holds like Karak Izor, Karak Norn or Karak Hirn either weren't created at the time or didn't take part in the war.
Dwarven hold's names are the same as today so i will not list them, i will only say that Karak Odro Karaz (Eight Peaks) was commonly known as Vala-Azrilungol - Queen of the Silver Deepths ; as the second greatest dwarven city in the world.
It is also worth noting that there was a dwarf mine of noticable size at the site of todays Middenheim - it was called Garazyakh Grungni - The Tower of Grungni.
Mount Silverspear and Mount Gunbad and Ekrund weren't holds but rather big, fortified mines (if i remember well Gunbad had the crew of 10, 000 miners!)
The dot in the Dragonback Mountains is Dwarf mine of Ekrund.
ELVES (marked red in the map); Supreme Leader : Phoenix King Caledor the Second
L'Anguille in today's Brettonia was Tor Alessi at the time, mightiest elven colony of the Old World, which will take major part in the war's storyline (besieged fourteen times!)
Marienburg was Sith Rionnasc’namistahtir (seriously!) - Star Gem of the Sea. It was also a major colony, and it stood the longest of all - actually it was finally razed to the ground AFTER the elves withdrawn, and after the death of Caldeor II. Thats probably mainly becasue... it was sorrounded (and Marienburg still is, even after thousand of years!) by Vloedmuur - an enormous wall of the dwarfs own desing and build, which they constructed prior to the war by the elven request. irony, huh?
Sadly, while I know names of two more elven cities : Athel Maraya and Tor Eorfith, I cannot place them on the map. Athel Maraya might have been somewhere near Loren, as i remember cities there start with Athel. So thats the ? near loren.
Tor Eorfith on the other hand was somewhere close to the hold of Karak Ungor, so probably on the coast near Norsca or something. Or maybe in the site of today's Erengard, but I'll need to do some research on that when I have time.
I also marked red in Loren as there was heavy presence of elves there, though i do not know names of any cities within the forest itself.
BEASTMEN (brown)
I suppose they just sat in the forest like today, although main trade routes were controled and heavily guarded by dwarfs.
ORCS (green)
They just waited outside of the dwarven borders, sometimes invading them but before the war they were easily defeated. They started being a pain during the war but Goblin Wars really started just after finishing the War of Vengeance.

Re: War of Vengeance / War of the Beard lore research, please help
I know Tobaro, Luccini, Remas, and Sartosa were Elven Colonies at the time. Monte Castello, although not shown on this map(it is on the small peninsula to the north of the Black Gulf), was the easternmost High Elf Fortress in the Old World. The Dwarfs captured and occupied Monte Castello at some point, but it isn't said if that was during the War of Vengeance or not.
The source for that is the 5th Edition Dogs of War Army Book, if you want to check.

For some reason, your map seems to be replaced by a 40k imperial guardsmen. Could someone please re-upload this map? I'd like to see it.
