Very interesting model SBH!........might he be similar to the ducenarius of 'Nowhere Legion'?......
A question: did the officers carry the lancea/spear in the IV Roman Army?...........
Little review: (now, being a critic, I criticize all!)...Good model, good sculpture, natural and suggestive pose,....but the paint work has something that could be better: The problem I see is that we would need some highlight effect! OK the washing to create the effect of old armour and the shades on the skin, but after the washing some touches to the metals and the skin is IMHO necessary!
Anyway very good model!![]()
I doubt officers (you mean not line officers but unit commanders, right?) would have been so equipped as a matter of course - but in the heat of battle you grab what you can I suppose! Holding a lancea would encumber too much from moving and giving orders/directions, I expect.
Paintwise, I agree. It does have a lovelt muted effect which is perhaps too dull . . .
I didn't know where else to post this, I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread SBH lol. You guys really need to see this though, this guy made a model figure in tribute to Julian the Apostate.

Thoughts on the following figure anyone? (It appears to be a late Roman, am I correct?)

Late Roman/Dark Age as the commentator references the Battle of Mons Badonicus. The cloak is not attached in the normal broach fashion but who knows what people really did when their kit broke or was lost?!
