Default Should I buy Shogun 2?

I have been looking around at Shogun 2. It looks pretty good. I have been a TW fan since Medieval II, and I think the series is going down hill, but I still think I want to get this. I am not asking people to tell me which way or another, I am only asking if someone could compile a list of pros and cons for me. Thank you!

Yes it is excellent. I'm a huge Medieval 2 fan as well and really enjoy Shogun 2. The main issue (IMO) is the lack of diversity/replay value.

A whole list? You`re serious? That`s asking a bit much of us, isn`t it? Couldn`t you just browse the forum instead and do your own research?

All I can say is it`s more a shooty game than melee but it is done well. Almost as good as MTW2. BAI and CAI are far better than Empire that`s for sure.

Pros: This has a great cai which is a whole lot better then other games. Your allies will actually help you. It has a very well done map with several buildings and technology to choose from. The naval battles have been simplified which makes it a lot easier to control. The mutiplayer is very interesting and probely greater then any other tw game. Great skill tree for generals that will change your army's performance. Cool agents with great assassination videos. Keeping your provinces will be heavily affected by religion so you will actually get to use some riot control. The diplomacy will actually be used in this one because allies are great help in this game. You will also use trade agreements to help boost economy. Also looks great with blood dlc and has rise of the samurai dlc for an extra campaign.

Cons: Shogun 2 is cannot be modded to the extent of med 2 but still offers great mods. The unit roster is very simple with almost no unique units exept if you buy dlc. The campaign map is also apretty small scale but should be able to still conquer around 75 provinces. It is very hard to start an avatar on the multiplayer map if you get the game late. The ai does not get "smarter" on higher difficulties. I just get a huge bonus for pretty much everything. The battles will be very fast paced as well. Seige battles are pretty dull compared to med 2 due to the fact that you can't knock down walls and flood troops in. All you do is send troops up walls or try to burn down a gate and send troops through. The defender only has towers that shoots arrows and a multi tiered hill with wooden palisades to protect your archers from fire. Siege weopons are also hard to get, slows your army and is not super effective.

This is just a small bit that I came up with. I'm sure there is tons of stuff i missed but I'm sure other people will pitch in.

I think all the Warscape games are pretty meh, they cna never hold my attention loke the older ones. They lack the playability factor off Rome and M2TW.

I don't know about others but for the first time in TW history I have manage to complete playing all available factions with Shogun 2 (including Ikko Ikki and Hattori). Maybe because it's the same but difference in position and maybe stats ?

Can't say the same for other previous games including Rome and Medieval.

Well, for one thing, there are less factions. Also, there are some factions on Rome or M2TW that you would never play, simply because they play so different and you may not like their play style.

Also, I liked Napoleon's graphics better than Shogun 2's. They looked cleaner, and more realistic.

@OP: I would say get it on sale. M2TW, in my opinion, is still WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better. It just felt like it had..... More. More of everything. Especially feeling. M2TW felt like a game that was made because the people making it had fun, and wanted it to be like this.

Shogun 2, while still a good game, feels like CA made it because they were told to, or they wanted money, or something.

    Am I making sense?

Well I only ever finished vanilla Julii once. That's all. Hundreds if not thousand of hours I spend on modding the game. Don't even play other factions except maybe a few turns. Med2 also the same. Maybe finished only playing England and Turks or Egypt. The only that can maintain my interest in Med2 is LOTR mod. Not that I play anymore though.

Somehow Napoleon can only sustain my interest for about 30 hours (according to Steam). Compared 600+ on Empire..

Napoleon is what Empire should have been, but I still play Empire more.

You just can't beat playing as the US, and invading India. Or Vice Versa.

William, I've been a huge fan of Shogun 2 and have nearly hit 300 hrs gameplay with it since getting it. But I must warn you that what you are seeing in pics on Steam, etc, is NOT what Shogun 2 is now.

With the release of FotS, Shogun 2's graphics -once stunning- have been reduced to Napoleon level. The Blood Pack DLC no longer works properly, and to be honest, after the woo woo of trains, rifles and agents with English accents has past, Fall of the Samurai is a very imcomplete game.

I'd give you a pros and cons breakdown, but with the possible exception of CAI, which has been improved, many of the pros have been altered or removed since the patch with FotS.
I've gone back to playing Rome, Medieval and Darth Empire, and won't touch Shogun 2 until CA vacuum's the rubbish on the carpet they've turned Shogun 2 into with the latest non-patch.

If I were you I'd hold off on picking it up until the whole shabam comes out as a package on sale for under twenty dollars, and until CA fixes the hatchet job they've done to the game with release of FotS.
I went from playing daily to not touching it, that's how bad it's become.

I have played TW since Shogun 1, I havent bought one since empire, I just played MTW2 mods until 3 weeks ago when I bought STW2 on steam sale for 7.50$. Definitely worth it they've improved a lot of stuff. AI really has gotten a major upgrade since MTW2 and the initial crap ETW AI of this new engine.

Yes, Shogun 2 is a great game despite the minor graphics issues with blood pack. However, you may consider them major so until they fix them you may want to hold off.

Good choice, the extra units and clans aren't worth the money.
