Icon5 Brits or America as Tosa?

What do you guys suggest? It's kind of a toss-up for me. I like the idea of the USMC soldiers being able to route enemy Kachi in melee, but I also don't like the idea that they are worse 'marksmen' then the Royal Marines. That being said, I do have my Tosa Riflemen to do the long range killing, would it be better to have the USMC as supporting units so I have gunpowder units with strong melee capabilities?

In terms of the ironclads, I understand that the Warrior is amazing but at the same time you get two ironclads if you go America. Plus, I'm not a huge ship person and the Warrior's cost is massive.

Hmm, just a total toss-up. Leaning towards the US, what do you guys think?

I went Britain, the Warrior can take down whole fleets itself.

I used US as Satsuma, and they were incredibly helpful. The USMC units were awesome up close (the few times that enemies made it close to them), but were also deadly with their rifles. I particularly enjoyed my 2 Roanoke class Ironclads, as they were usually able to get a volley or two off before the enemy was in range, and often that was enough to eliminate an enemy ship before they could fight back.

US Marines have 13 attack and 8 defense. Katana kachi have 15 attack and 4 defense. Shogitai have 19 attack and 6 defense. Just to give you an idea. A single Roanoke has 24 guns (I think), so two have 48 guns. On the other hand, the Warrior has 84 guns. IMO Britain is stronger

that and British royal marines have better stats (reload and accuracy)

Britain would be the better choice I think.

For Tosa? Britain. The Warrior is so OP it makes the Black Ship look like a well balanced addition...

That and with your Tosa Riflemen and Red Bears, you wont even need Marines - and even if you did use them, I'll be damned if anythings getting close enough to swing a sword at them

Hmm some interesting points made so far.

Like I said, I'm not a huge navy person (even though I'm playing Tosa ). Even the American ironclads are still very strong ships, albeit not quite as strong as the Warrior.

With already having the Red Bears (which are unfortunately the worst 'Bears' line inf) and the Tosa Riflemen, I'm thinking that a more melee-oriented foreign military unit would make my armies more balanced. That and being my first campaign that I've stuck with and got this far with, I kind of want to go America to represent where I am from!

Now, I am more of a long-ranged person so the better rifle stats on the Royal Marines is very enticing. The Warrior is also better, but I mean the hefty cost and the fact that I auto-resolve all Naval battles anyway make the Warrior less of a deal.

    Hmm....

If this was on any other forum a massive Britain vs the USA war would have started by now. Dental hygiene would be questioned and references to trailer parks would be made. XD

Well, maybe most of us around here realize that this is purely a gameplay discussion, and our own personal nationalities really has very little bearing on which units are more effective. Of course, I'm sure some bias creeps into our decisions along these lines, but other than for roleplaying, it just comes down to which units are more effective when answering such a question. Of course, the answer itself is somewhat subjective.

Which is a pretty funny point for either side considering it's the most obese country in Europe Vs the most obese country in the Americas

I have terrible luck with auto resolving naval battles. Even if the odds are well in my favour my copper plated Kaiyo Maru+3 Kasuga class ships all somehow contrive to be heavily damaged against one enemy Kasuga -_-

I would still go Britain in your case. Auto-resolving with Warrior should still get you great results, even if it's the only ship in the stack, effectively allowing you to control the waters around your island.

If you go American, you'll still be able to dominate, though you'll definitely want to give the ships some support if you're auto-resolving.

Really, it comes down to when you've got your hands on Imperial Infantry and Tosa riflemen, maybe a parrot gun or 4, do you still expect to close in for melee? If yes, then USMC wont steer you wrong. If no, then the guns of the Royal Marines will be fine additions to your lines.

Oh one other thing is that if you go America you get +5 Accuracy to artillery, and Brits get +5 Accuracy to ships. Being I'm more of a land person, the artillery does seem more useful...

But yes Lazarus, that is a good point.

I chose America because it was the first to offer anything and I didn't realize making the decision to allow an American military expedition would keep the Brits from wanting to help me out as well! Oh well, the way the USMC men say Semper Fidelis really makes them the best unit in the end anyways...
