    Default FOTS-Independence?

In case nobody else has noticed, there appears to be a Third Allegiance in FOTS, Independent.

They Even have their own Breed of Infantry, Republican Infantry, which go along with the Shogunate and Imperial. Even Elite Republican.

However, I have no idea how to become Independent. Can somebody shed some light on this?

When you get to Realm Divide, you'll have two options.

Option 1: Support Emperor/Shogun. This choice depends on what your current allegiance is. If you currently are pro-emperor, the option will be Support Emperor. If you are currently pro-shogunate, it will be support the Shogun. You cant be one and decide to betray them at the very last second.

Option 2: Declare independence. This choice makes you the "Insert Clan name Republic" and operates essentially the same as Realm Divide in Shogun 2 (everyone declares war on you the next couple of turns). It also, as you said, gives you access to Republic units instead of Imperial or Shogunate units. One thing for you to note, should you wish to become a republic - you dont have an influence agent. The only way for you to spread influence is through buildings - so expect a very slow campaign for quite a while.

Well, My guess is that he has a realm divide removal mod on his data folder? AFAIK, a RD removal mod from pre FOTS days does carry on to FOTS. Thats pretty much the only mod that still works after the patch update (ok, maybe more than that but still).

So, to OP, you might want to check your data folder for anything like that.

Yeah I have no idea what the Realm Divine is, for I have been playing this game for about 6 Hours now, And I rage quit sometimes because the start of the game is REALLY SLOW and I haven't played Shogun 2 Total War, I'm used to Napoleon and Medieval, where you get about 6 Provinces and can uphold several Armies at once.
Only Mod I'm using is Darthmod, and I'm boosting income.

    Oh, ok. My bad.

Realm Divide is when you become really powerful, and the civil war actually starts.

Also, FotS starts out extremely slowly.

Most TW games start out pretty slowly. I've found FotS and Shogun 2 to be pretty action-y fairly quickly in comparison.

Really? I felt it started out slowly compared to the others, because you're so limited in funds.

But, then again, all my games start out slowly, because I don't like blitzing the AI and conquering the world in 15 turns. I take it verrrry sllllllowly. Turtle a lot.

Yeah me too, I always take the time to build up my strength before moving but I think in FotS especially it starts out quickly. Though it probably varies by clan, most of the clans start out at war with a neighbour. Not to mention the Pro-Shogunate/Imperial making loads of people hate you right off the bat. It wasn't quite as much in vanilla S2 but it was still there.

In previous titles I felt I had the space and time to build up my strength and I usually did. But in S2 I just find myself constantly at war no matter what I do.

But maybe I'm just doing something that's making everyone mad... (My ninjas all over the place could be somehow connected )

Yeah, you are right. Japan is quite cramped compared to the other games.

To the op, in fots, if you capture a certain number of cities like maybe 18 out of 26 required in your victory conditions, your fame level in your clan screen will rise to legendary status, which triggers realm divide. It's understandable if you don't understand it seeing you've never played the original Shogun 2 TW, but realm divide in rots is due to a splitting of Japan between clans loyal to the shogun and those loyal to the emperor. If you choose to side with the emperor/shogun when the option screen appears, only all the clans of the opposing allegiance will declare war on you. But if you choose to become a republic, you will have to fight everyone else, which is something similar to the original Shogun 2's realm divide effect.

    OP,

Goto your Clan Management screen here: http://postimage.org/image/qp02awoyx/

You will see a yellow bar (which I circled in red). When the yellow bar reaches full, Realm Divide will trigger. You will get to choose from either siding with the Shogunate/Imperial or Independent, which means forming a Republic.

In shogun 2 around 15 in fots its 9.

Also this game has slower campaign movements in general then Shogun 2 but you can boost economy alot faster here then in Shogun 2 reaching 4-5k within a few turns.

Really? Enlighten me, oh monetary master!

I'm currently stuck with a bugged AI, I think. None of them want to trade with me. Not even my allies. Over land! They just refuse and I don't get why. My income at turn 40 or so with 4 provinces is barely 1500

9 is way too low, I have 14 regions in my current campaign and it still hasn't kicked in.
