Biography:

Born in 2330, Edward Mountbatten was born in the area of the United Earth, known as Old Britain. Growing up in a family that had in centuries past fulfilled roles in governmental administration across Earth, the importance of civic duty was passed onto young Edward early on. When he had finished his schooling in London he first went to University in Oxford, which had been educating people since the 14th century. Having completed his studies with a degree in Political Science he proceeded to matriculate into the Starfleet Academy in 2351.

Throughout his time at the academy, he remained strongly mediocre. Always performing well, but not excellently, but he did however excel at the command scenarios placed upon him. If it had not been for his skill at this and navigation, it is unlikely he would have progressed beyond Lieutenant. Yet in 2355 he was commissioned onto the USS Stargazer as Assistant Navigational Officer. However only months later the Stargazer was lost in enemy action, and Mountbatten was without a ship. One of his friends who had recently been posted to a remote Federation outpost on the border with the Gamma Quadrant recruited him as the Chief Communications Officer, which was dull work, but the experience helped him understand the vastness of space, and allowed him contact with many different races from around the Galaxy.

It was several years later that he was given rank as Lieutenant and was made Chief Navigational officer aboard the USS Victory, although little action was seen on this ship, the time of exploration was what made it memorable for Edward, exploring the truly unknown and with himself at the helm, it was something that he never wished to lose. Mountbatten was nominated for Command Academy by his captain in 2362 and he duly attended, passing something for the first time with anything more than a simple pass. As a result he was given the rank of Lieutenant Commander and made Chief Tactical Officer onboard the USS Pegasus, a warship that would experience combat situations while Mountbatten was onboard which allowed him to feature in despatches and be recognised by Starfleet Command. After the Pegasus he served aboard several more ships before finally being made Executive Officer in 2370 of the USS Challenger, an excelsior class starship tasked with observing the rising Dominion threat, and for ensuring the Cardassians did not strike when they were least expecting it. They did, and it was on the Challenger that Edward experienced the Dominion War, fighting with valor and recognition, at one point taking temporary command of his ship when the captain was incapacitated for several weeks.

In recognition of his service he was made Captain in 2375 and after several years teaching navigation and other courses at the Academy he was granted his first true command, of the new Intrepid class ship, the USS Indefatigable.
