Roman AOR
I'm playing the Roman 1-turn campaign and the Marian reforms have just kicked in.
Now I'm wondering why is it logical that one could recruit more kind of troops in allied states in pre-marian stage than after the reforms.
Particularly in Greece, I took the Peloponnese and Athens and after building the barracks I had half dozen heavy troops in my roster, like athenian marines, hoplites, etc. After the reforms they all disappeared and I'm down to some peltasts, archers and light cavalry. It means no game breaking problem as I can bring in fresh legions from Italy any time, I'm just curious if there's a historical background of this change or it has to do something with the hardcoded limit of the recruitable troop types per city.

Re: Roman AOR
It has to do with the historical changes. It can't be represented in RTW very well, since you only get one hard coded reform (without a ton of scripting, anyway). But in RS2 the building of various buildings 'tries' to represent the shift from volunteer and mercenary\allied units to an all professional army consisting of the Legions and Auxilia Battalions. It is an event you kind of have to be prepared for, because your recruitment options will change a lot, and as you say, many of the units you formerly had access to will disappear. Still, quite a few will remain in the client state building tree for a long time. But by the time Rome was using named Legions and Auxilia of the Imperium, hoplites and such were a thing of the past (at least for the Romans, because they no longer used them).
