    Default Unit name change proposal

For historical accuracy sake maybe thureophoroi should be renamed to taxeis and the heavy peltasts should be called thureorophoroi as they are more similar to what they were historically.

What do you think about it?

I say yes. We should try to name all Greek units as historically accurate as possible.

In XGM 2 the greek units all had greek names, in greek characters, in addition to English names. I liked it, but it was hard to maintain because I don't know greek. I had to rely on automatic translations, dictionaries, or help from people who knew greek. In some cases it took me as much time to figure out the right name for a new unit as it did to make the unit.

Using only greek names can be a nuisance for new players. If they check the list of units that can be recruited from a building, for example, the list can will be more or less meaningless to them if all the names are in Greek.

Well, I'm not saying that XGM should use all greek names but in this case there's a big accuracy problem, as thureophoroi weren't militia at all, ranking between peltasts (RTW heavy peltasts) and thorakitai...

I think EB is much worse on unit names for new player, not to mention the buildings...

well i think thats gonna sort out after they make all info cards(now its really confusing in some factions..)
but they messed up with mic unit list where you got 2 or 3 lines of text over each other (unreadable ... )

concerning your greek translation problem ,DimeBagHo, I think your mod earn nuff respect for you to get any availble help you need, so dont let that minor stuff bug you ,just ask for help...

Well, the problem is that right now thureophoroi are quite inaccurate, because they were a quite capable javelin/spear medium infantry rather than militia (which were taxeis)...
Anyways, the popular vote shows strong preference for accuracy DBH, I would take this into account...

Then you can call the Spartan Royal guard: Hippeis. =P

Well, spartan royal guard is the translation (roughly) of what the hippeis were, while what I'm pointing here is that the thureophoroi weren't a militia unit but rather an heavy skirmisher/medium infantry unit...

I know, poor Thureophori. But i think giving them historical names cant hurt, after all, people can read the unit description of what the unit can do.

Well, on the other side DBH and I would like to keep the mod beginner friendly, as it is one of the top "selling points" of XGM after all...
Even though we often took inspiration from EB our aim is not to replicate their feats or create a lower quality mock up, we lack skills and resources for such a feat and we like more the way XGM is developing as good compromise between pure gameplay and accuracy...

If in the future we'll manage to make a mod that plays (almost) as good as DarthMod and with reasonable accuracy then our aim will be fulfilled...
