    Default Whats next for AMD?

    CPU wise?
I was one of the first ones to rush out and get and FX-CPU a few months ago w/o reading reviews/user experiences and honestly kinda regret it.
My Phenom 2x4 945 seemed just as responsive if not more and even got a slightly higher score in the WEI{which i dont put much credance in but still}.
Even the top of the line FXs are trumped by mid range current intels.
I was just hoping for much more.......

He's pretty much right. AMD's getting out of the consumer CPU market iirc.

Yep, im planning on going AMD with the small server im getting because they are much cheaper then Intel but for anything performance id have to go with Intel over AMD. Sandybridge is just too good

AMD is more bang for buck, especially if you set up a network. Since they tend to try to keep compatibility with their sockets over a greater period than Intel, upgrading is easier and cheaper.

on average at least for what the average person uses there PC for Sandybridge has a fairly sizeable lead and in gaming FX series chips only rival Nehalem,

essentially a Phenom II chip will beat every FX series chip for the most part UNLESS its a highly overclocked FX 6100 or higher aka 3 core 6 threads or 4 core 8 threads lets face it Bulldozer arch is really more similar to Hyper Threading then real cores, if you look at the FX 8150 as a QUADCORE with EIGHT THREADS its a much better CPU, priced higher then it should be but you get the idea, AMD tried to push core count when in reality most apps we use today just arent threaded very well,

thus why you see cheaper Phenom II x6 cpus compete with FX series chips, the FX chips only win in gaming compared to Phenom II due to the better IMC Its hilarious to note however that an APU which has a better IMC then Phenom II can beat the FX series chips aka A8 3850 pairs Deneb aka Phenom II cores with an IMC somewhere between Phenom II and Bulldozer which makes them an interesting black sheep at the moment, It honestly makes me wonder? If you give a Phenom II a better IMC, and update it with todays newer Instruction sets just where it would fall performance wise.

That said AMD isnt moving out of the consumer market, they are focusing on larger contracts,

    Look at APUs

you realize AMD owns alot of shares in ARM, aka tablets phones etc, Intel has to pay AMD for x64, which is whats soon to become the defacto standard as Windows 9 aka w.e comes after Windows 8 will NOT have a 32bit versions PERIOD,

so lets look at it this way

CPU wise most users havent needed anything better since Core 2 Duo / Athlon X2 era for daily tasks
GPU is becoming more important it renders your browser accellerates flash, and HD video, it does computational work for HPC segment etc etc

APU offers passable CPU performance with a very good integrated GPU
AMD has contracts with Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo for the next generation of consoles meaning

Xbox 360, Xbox 720, PS4, Wii, Wii U, all have AMD hardware inside,
APUs are making AMD alot of money on the OEM fron from laptops and Desktops do to cheap cost, and decent performance for the price / watt,

If you need to get something done faster, do photoshop or Game heavily then Intel is the go to choice, if you need a Low power server, or a cheap Home Theater PC or just a work unit for surfing the net writing up documents AMD gives you bang for buck,

its just in the small part of the market we PC gamers below to aka the Enthusiast market, which really only amounts to 1-2% AMD is epic fail for the 98-99% of typical daily pc users they could care less long as it works lol,

    Eitherway long story short

if you surf watch HD video just need a box that works AMD is fine in fact there fantastic,

if you want to Game etc then Intel is where you go, Things were SO bad back when Phenom II launched price performance they kicked ass, sadly those days are gone.

Still remember my Phenom II 940 BE + 790GX i spent $340 on that combo which was the same cost as the i7 920, did everything i wanted it to and let me grab a 4870x2 those were the last real glory days of AMD performance for the price.
