    Icon4 Windows XP crashes!

So, I reinstalled Windows XP on another PC (Which had Windows 2000, now dual boots), installation when perfect, I installed my usual software, used Advanced Systemcare to install several updates and defrag my HDD, updated my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro drivers (To something like 8.2.311), and restarted my PC, but when it turns on, it shows a desktop with a screen resolution of 800x600 and colors set to 4-Bit and on system it said I had 256MB of RAM (While I have 1.5GBs) and it did not allowed me to increase resolution or put the colors to 32-bit, so my instinct told me that it was mostly the drivers, so I rolled the Ati Drivers back to the previous which worked, it allowed me to increase the resolution back to 1024x768 and put the colors back to 32-bit, but when I click "Accept", the screen turns black and the PC restarts and the old resolution and 4-bit colors are still there and it still says 256MBs of RAM, and it looks as if I was using Windows 95 and it even uses the same shotcut pictures. Any help here? or will I have to re install Windows XP? Or if I click on repair Windows, will it work? Help me TWC guys, you are my only hope! Thank you for your help.

Is the main boot option for your system Windows 2000 by chance? Maybe the dual boot option in XP doesn't like sharing space with Win2K.

By the way can you explain to me why you're preserving a copy of Win2K at this late stage? It was garbage to begin with and is garbage now....

I agree with polecat, backup any data you want to preserve and make XP your only OS

Well, guys thank, for your help, but I downloaded Windows 7 and formatted my PC.

But why I had Windows 2000? Well, I had Ubuntu previously, but I really missed playing my games like RTW and Civilization, but strangely, my XP disc wan not able to boot on start, and since you cant open exe. Files on Ubuntu, I could not install XP, so I had to install 2K in order to open the exe. file and install XP. Any way, now I installed 7 and it is actually really fast on my ancient rig (1.5GB DDR RAM, AMD Sempron 3000+ 2.00GHz [equivalent to Pentium 4 @ 3.00GHz], Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB), heck, even faster than XP. Thank you any way guys!

+Rep for all the time you guys help me

I had to look this up as I don't play with Linux kernels but I was sure that you could load Windows .exe files through it. Here's a quick step instruction on how to do it. The problem may be what version you had. In any case good luck!
