Default Your most epic battle so far (FOTS)

What has been your most epic battle thus far in FOTS?

I just had mine. It was a siege defense. Edo castle, me as Chosu Imperial vanguard. I had done a naval invasion of Edo, and was just going to dig in and finish of the campaign, these troops were alone except for naval bombardment support.

Anyway, my army was holed up in a citadel. I had a general, two units of revolver cav, two Yari kachi, A USMC unit, two parrots, and the rest Imperial infantry. Around 2000 men all together.

I was up against almost 8000 troops from 2 factions. Including artillery, line infantry, Shogtai, and samurai of all stripes. I thought I was doomed.

Their artillery did a number on me. I lost an entire unit of Imperial infantry to it, and almost lost others. They just kept coming! My USMC was up at the top level laying down a murderous fire, killing around 400. My revolver cav were dismounted, responding to men climbing over the walls. By the end of the battle I had 20 cav left out of 120.

I called in my first naval bombardment, and it did nothing, I cringed. I put my levy on the outside walls, and moved my imperial troops back as they kept taking casualties. I routed the initial wave. Then came wave 2, without naval support I know I would have lost. I hammered them hard when they were trying to climb my walls. By now a lot of my infantry was out of ammo/cut to pieces.

My Yari Kachi saved me. I sent them into the breach on the second level of my castle to help some imperial infantry. They were throwing everything at them, Kisho ninja, line infantry, Katana kachi, a samurai hero, it was a massacre. I had 27 Yari Kachi left at the end, the two units combined killed nearly 1000. But they had broken their backs, and sent them running. I was unable to offer any sort of pursuit, and the AI didn't send their cav+generals at my castle.

It was the first time in TW I felt........exhausted after a victory. Watching units I had groomed be nearly destroyed, fighting to literally the last man in some cases, looking at the aftermath on the battlefield, I had lost more then half my army, they had lost around 6000 men all together. The castle was trashed, walls destroyed, towers gone.

They are besieging the castle again with the remnants, I think I can hold them again, I think.

A multiplayer match of FOTS VS Shogun 2 units. It tends to be alot more exciting fighting humans than AI (for probably obvious reasons). It's sort of changed now, people know how to use FOTS units better and will easily rip you apart. Most just set up camp and spam art for 15 minutes. In this match he either he wasn't very good, I was playing well (rare) or it was a fluke. Either way, it was a successful match that was very gratifying. Particularly flankling the Gat. It's the kind of game that makes you punch the air and shout "yes!".

Had this siege defence of one of my castletowns, which was not very well defended (like 2-3 levy infantry plus the garrison), and I am not sure, if it was the most epic battle I have had, but it was the hardest. In the battle I am Tosa Imperial Vanguard and I am fighting Odawara.

I did have naval support, but it didn't really do much due to bad "aiming". My "army" mainly covered one of the sides as I wanted to take as many of that force with me to the grave. After a long fight I managed to rout some of their troops, who had climbed my walls. The remaining troops there were weakened significantly and I finally managed to rout all of them after many melee engagement on the final layer of the castle. The main army, which was coming from the other side, took a while to get to final layer, leaving me time to regroup my force and pull off the same stunt on them, as I had done to the others (Shoot -> charge with infantry-> flank attack with yari -> melee chaos -> routing enemies).

This is the result of that battle

This was a defensive battle in a Citadel that I fought. I didn't have enough guns to cover all my fronts and they were only levies at that, against samurai. The province is a Sedai Province that I took quickly, needless to say I couldn't hold it after this battle, so I burnt every building I could to the ground and booked it ^^

My most epic was also a siege defense, overextended my troops blitzing so my Daimyo was caught in newly captured Harima, one stack up against 1.5 stack filled with katana kachi. I saw their troops at the last second before hitting next turn so all I could bring to reinforce was a single general boosted by a full star shinsengumi. Turns out bringing the second general along was the right move, because he was able to skirmish and distract the horde of katanas while I deal with the rest of their army. Sadly the dude didn't survive the encounter because the BAI was smart enough to box him in while I wasn't looking and render the skirmish mode useless. He was cut down instantly, along with the legendary shinsengumi who was guarding him, as I found out after returning to the campaign map victorious.

Needless to say, the enemy clan didn't survive long after that.

I had just managed to squeek a victory over a superior Obama army in Awaji and sent one of my ragged Tosa armies trudging through the snowy plains of Harima towards the castle. Launching a desperate assault with my 1000 men because the enemy had reinforcements incoming, I was confronted with garrison forces amounting to 3000 men, most of them of equal quality to my troops except for my three damaged units of Royal Marines. Not sure how I pulled off the victory, but I lost two of my marine divisions in a desperate flank attack and barely avoided an enemy naval bombardment in time.

My Red Bears improved melee and morale over the opponent's line infantry also proved valuable.

I just fought a battle as nagaoke against three and a half stacks of jozai. I had a full stack myself, mainly levy rifles and spears, and four units of line infantry and two generals.

I had the best fortress: The long one with two lower levels on the sides. I put my lines on top, guarding the long sides, my levy spears directly in front of those walls and two units of levy rifles on both of the lower walls. They fired at the enemy as they approached (from both sides at the same time) until I retreated them back to the top level. My spears kept them at bay while my line infantry kept on firing down at them from above, and one general unit shot at them from both sides. It was utter madness. one of my line infantries had 600 kills at the end of the battle.

But that wasn't the end of it yet. The third army had reinforced from the sides, and they were climbing the high walls and ending up right near my tenchy. My singly unit of yari kachi's kept the lot of them (a full stack of levy riflemen) at bay until I sent the levy spearman from one side (where the enemy was routing) over there. They kept on pinning the enemy down, while my levie riflemen and line infantry from that side fired into the melee.

I lost 1800 of my 4000 men, they lost 9000 of their 12000. I still got a close victory. WTF!

I haven't had any memorable battles yet but my bar is set pretty high. It's my own fault ;p

But, OP, if this is the first battle you've ever felt exhausted against.. you've never held Jerusalem against the MONGOL HORDES in M2TW have you . I still have memories of the first time.. defeating 8000 horsebound demons with only a force of 2000 and the next turn seeing four more stacks show up to ruin me. Ahh sweet memories.

I guess one `epic` battle I had was when the Tosa surprised my Satsumo forces and were overwhelming me with line infantry and cavalry. I really didn`t have enough guns or men to do the job. I could see we were going to lose. In desperation I called down a Naval Artillery strike almost on top of our position! It worked. Some of my men got hit but his main forces -he could not avoid at this point- were decimated and we won the battle!

Now that`s what I call epic!
