yeah old scratch, lol I was just gonna say that. I think it comes from the U.S.A., the south. in Islam I read that their devil is named iblis. In persia it was Ahriman or Angra Mainyu. Mephistopheles is also a name for the Devil...this is all off wikipedia, I told you there were a lot. Some of them are really cool. I like Son of Perdition and Old Scratch and Morning Star the best. Sounds cooler.
[QUOTE=RZZZA]I like Son of Perdition and Old Scratch and Morning Star/QUOTE]
An interesting to back up my totally serious post in this thread: Morning Star is used to refer to both Lucifer and ... Jesus Christ. Why? Because the "morning star" is the brightest star in the heavens if you look up at the right time, and thus "morning star" was used to refer to Lucifer, who was the greatest being (besides God) in heaven before being cast down; and was also used to refer to Jesus Christ. But how is this possible? The Son of God must surely have existed at the same time Lucifer was a good angel; was Lucifer called the greatest in the heavens, and Jesus was not, implying Jesus was not the perfect being? The only logical explanation is that they were used to refer to both at the same time . . . which implies one thing: Jesus is Lucifer. Lucifer is Jesus. If you are willing to entertain a mildly Zoroastrian thought, Jesus and Lucifer are the two separate ends of the spectrum. The ultimate good, the source of all things good in the world apparently, and the ultimate evil, Lord of the Flies, Prince of Lies ... the king of heaven and the king of hell. If one did not exist, the other would not be good or evil.
Call this belief heretical, but truly! Jesus and Lucifer are one and the same; how else can you explain evil being created by a just God?
Is there a verse that calls lucifer the greatest of heaven, because you are forgetting God in that case. Lucifer was an angel. Jesus is greater than angels, as said in the NT, thus Jesus and lucifer cannot be considered alike by any circumstances whatsoever.
Hmm, Silver Guard fits the bill, or [insert real name].
But on the serious not I would say 'religion' itself, as it falls under all of RZZA's ideas and mine of ignorance. Religion is so worldwide and mind consuming that it is almost a personality in itself, the most likely controler of hell! And no, my vies are not open for debate thanks
RZZZA, in that list is it just me or are some translated (Father of Lies, say) but some left in transliterated Hebrew (Beelzebub, ie, Lord of the Flies)?
primus pater cunobelin erat; sum in patronicium imb39, domi wilpuri; Saint-Germain, MasterAdnin, Pnutmaster, Scorch, Blau&Gruen,
Ferrets54, Honeohvovohaestse, et Pallida Mors in patronicum meum sunt
I dunno I guess they just thought beelezebub was more recognizable than lord of the flies? The list isnt complete even I can see that, satan still has many, many more names than that. Old Scratch isnt even on that list, a lot of his names arent on that list.
"Old Scratch" is a colloquialism for Satan, as indicated by the name of the character in the Stephen Vincent Benét short story, "The Devil and Daniel Webster". "
Ive never read the devil and daniel webster, but I HAVE read The Devil and Tom Walker, which is a short story I found in one of those ghost story books, lol well anyway in that book was the first place I had seen the Devil referred to as Old Scratch, and it said in the book that the story came from the american south, so I assumed the name did too. Maybe I was wrong bout that I dont know anything about who wrote the devil and daniel webster or where he was from. The name seems french though doesnt it? benet with that weird french thingy over the e.
Actually, alot of the names you posed aren't meant to mean The Devil, or Satan, or whatever you call him. But seperate entities or demons.
"In classic demonology, however, each of these alternate names refers to a specific supernatural entity."
From wiki. Whatever its all fantasy to me. One entity, seperate entities, whatever.
