Default Found cause of bad performance/stuttering/hitching

It's related to the steam executable.

While playing Shogun the steam.exe is uses around 30-50% of my CPU, not normal at all.

Everyone who is having problems or even people with beefy PC's who aren't having a problem, it could still be affecting you. So alt tab and check your windows task manager while at the main menu of Shogun 2, in a battle and on the campaign map just to confirm!

"We apologize for the delay. Unfortunately it appears that the reason the Steam client uses this much CPU time is due to an excessive number of calls made to the Steam client from Duke Nukem Forever itself. Steam cannot control this behavior and unfortunately without innate internal knowledge of the game, Steam Support is not able to diagnose and/or resolve the issue. Further support for this title is available from the appropriate third-party support deparment for this game. Contact information can be found in the following Steam Support article: Title: Duke Nukem Forever Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...2285-QIOJ-8438 If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you."

Source: http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/sh...page=7It's blatantly similar to the problem Duke Nukem Forever had a little less than a year ago. So it's The Creative Assemblies problem and needs to be patched.

None from me. I haven't played Duke Nukem in over twenty years.

I think I'm moreso asking for feedback of what your steam.exe CPU usage is like while in the menu's of Shogun as well as while playing it, in a battle and on the campaign map.

Could this be caused by 'looking for a drop-in player' feature? I have noticed, map stutter goes away if I turn 'looking for a drop-in player' off...

If you play offline, Steam should not be an issue with any performance problems. It's a just a launcher. If you are online then yes different story. Play offline .... go online once every couple of weeks to catch updates and so on.

"Australian troops had, at Milne Bay, inflicted on the Japanese their first undoubted defeat on land. Some of us may forget that, of all the allies, it was the Australians who first broke the invincibility of the Japanese army."

    100% confirm this, nice find.

I was to start pulling my hair trying to find what was causing that annoying stutter every 5 seconds, be it in the game menu, campaign or battles!

I had this game for about 1 year, but decided to wait for better hardware and for CA to fix bugs etc, but it's incredible how these are still present...

This Steam stutter thing is somewhat recent though, right? You say it started since FoTS patch? So has anyone reported this to CA so they fix it yet?

I even recorded a comparison video of Steam offline vs Steam online mode to see stutter in menu:
