Bran strolled by and threw his torch onto the thatch roof, burning the cottage and it's inhabitants into cinders. walked up to the quaint cottage, knocking on the door.

A young man appears beyond the horizon. He was clearly a priest. With him were five other members of the clergy, all riding mules. They came towards the home of the man and one of the clerks rapped the door.

An arrow severed his jugular vein. We don't take too kindly to Irish around here.

Robert opened the door and sized up the man standing before him.

    Greetings.

Good afternoon, Father. How can I help you?

Hail, my son. My name is Father Philip Lionheart and these are my companions. Said who seemed to be the oldest of the small group of very young men. He himself seemed not to be older then eighteen, but had something of a mature aura to him. We come in search of the hospitallity of a good christian. Could you spare a roof and some provisions for a travelling group of priests? We shall not stay idle in the time here, and promise to earn our stay. What say you?

    Robert nodded.

    My home is your home.

He stepped aside and gestured toward the interior of the hovel. It was by no means spacious, and already housed eight individuals, but accommodation of the five holy men was possible.

I thank you for your kindness, my son. Said Philip with a kind nod. The priests accomodated themselves where they could and never seemed to stay quiet. They would leave the House in search of firewood for dinner. They would hunt to help fill the man's table when it was time to eat. They would ask him if there was anything that needed repairs in his land and quickly went on in helping in the repairs as soon as the problem was known. In short, the six clergymen were not the type to stay idle, even if the chief of the house insisted in any moment for them to stop.

After fixing a broken yoke, Father Philip went to the chief of the household and smiled. Prey tell me, my son, where is your family from and how did you come to England?

    Robert sighed.

Only since my father died last year; times have been hard since. I was born in Normandy, but I grew up near Oxford Castle.

To whom doth thou serve? If not any liege than I am willing to offer thee a squire position within the house of Neville, you may yet earn your father's spurs

Bucked and trampled by his own steed. He was a knight under the late Lord de Vernon.

Robert glanced at the meager thatch roof and sighed again.

We lived comfortably when he was alive. Now... now it's all gone. But enough about me - where are you from, sir?

"Me? The west of Ireland, myself, so. My father was a lord, but he died, and I was driven from my lands. I am now a squire to Lord Marsh of Hertfordshire."

Robert sighed and spoke as he fetched a few mugs of mead for the priests.

Well, I was born in Rouen. My father fought honourably at Hastings and brought us to England when I was a lad of nine. His name was Sir Hugue de Fiennes, and he was a close adviser to the late Lord de Vernon, fighting with him on the Barons' campaign. Lord Roger was murdered two years ago, and my father followed him in death soon after. With no means to support ourselves, we have lived humbly here ever since.

Utterly shocked, Robert again dropped to his knees and prostrated before Lord Neville.

Sire, it would be a tremendous honour to serve thee. I have no liege lord, and am the sole provider for my stepmother and younger siblings. If you will allow me to fetch my belongings, I would be most pleased to accompany thee to thy castle.

An Irishman, eh? I must admit, I have never encountered a man of your heritage before.

Robert glanced up toward the beaming sun, then back toward Bran.

I have heard Eire is a beautiful land.
