Default [Proposal] Extended Rome Total War for M2TWK

    The Initial Proposal
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Opening
Yes, I know Europa Barbarorum will be coming out with a fantastic mod in the next few years. Yes, I also know that I need considerable interest to start a mod. So, I am proposing a mod set in the Roman Time Frame that will be played on the M2TW Kingdoms engine.

    Reason for Proposal
The main attraction for me is the 31 faction slots. In almost every mod for RTW, the issue of 21 factions comes up. Many factions are left out. So with this mod, I believe every faction could be represented, and represented well. Other than the faction slots, I really do not have a reason for this mod. If anyone has ideas for why M2TW has advantages for a Roman mod, feel free to inform me.

    The Idea of a Mod
I am a fan of RTW vanilla, and the vanilla mods made for it such as XGM, XC, DTW, and THS, along with some others. I have always wanted to see something similar to vanilla RTW on the M2TW engine. Yes, I am aware of the legal issues and such. All I'm asking for is a mod similar to vanilla RTW, not vanilla RTW itself on the M2TW engine. This mod should be simple. As far as units are concerned I am fine with keeping it similar to RTW (One model/texture for each unit, instead of different models and textures) I feel as if that would be easier.

    The Mod
Well I am fascinated with the year 280 BC. So that's where I'd like the game to start. I would like to see the map stretch from Scotland to India, while also including Scandinavia and Arabia. 31 factions, with faction colors, not realistic colors when it comes to uniforms and such. Historical accuracy when it comes to the cities, units and characters. A simple game engine, not something like EB where everything is complicated and realistic. Pretty much something that is enjoyable while still be historically accurate.

    Modders Needed
I'm not much of a modder. I'm pretty good with text editing the easiest form of modding for RTW. As for M2TW, I have no experience. So I guess you can say this proposal is open to anyone who wants it. I can offer myself as a researcher, and I can provide some detailed research for this mod. I would be able to make the unit rosters for each faction as long as the AOR set up. However, I would like the mod to stay to it's roots.

    Closing
That's all I can say really. I can only hope and pray that some talented modders out there become interested in this proposal. I would love to see it happen, and believe it would be fun to make as well as play.

If there are any questions feel free to post or message me, I have learned a lot about modding and know very few mods actually see the light of day, hence why I'm simply proposing this to see who is interested.

    Thanks for your time,
    ahowl11

Hello everyone! I have been doing some thinking lately, and I pretty much have decided to combine this proposal with my current mod that's a WIP 'Extended Rome Total War'.

Like I said above within the spoiler, the biggest reason would be the fact that I can add 10 more factions to the mod! That along with other features would be a nice upgrade for the mod. The only thing that I can really do right now is come up with a faction list and do research as my primary focus is to release what I am currently working on. If you are interested in knowing more, go here:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=536962

Anyways, the current faction list for XRTW:
    The Roman Republic
    The Republic of Carthage
    The Antigonid Kingdom
    The Seleucid Empire
    The Ptolemaic Empire
    The Kingdom of Epirus
    The Kingdom of Bactria
    The Bosporan Kingdom
    The Kingdom of Pontus
    The Kingdom of Armenia
    Parthians
    Numidians
    Illyrians
    Gauls
    Germans
    Britons
    Iberians
    Dacians
    Sarmatians
    Greek City States
    Rebels

Now there are 10 more slots left and I'm not exactly sure what factions will fill those slots, however I can think of a few.

    1. The Kingdom of Pergamum
    2. The Mauryan Empire
    3. Galatians
    4. The Nabataean Kingdom
    5. Saba
    6. Celt-Iberians
    7. Aetolian League
    8. Achaean League
    9. Sparta
    10. Saka

*The Greek Cities would turn into Syracuse*

Now some of you may ask, what about another Gallic faction? Well XRTW will feature many Alternate Campaigns, and there was not a big difference between the Aedui and Arverni. Now the same can be said about the Greeks, but the Greeks were different and unique.

Anyways those 10 factions are not set in stone, but I feel they balance out a map pretty well. Over the course of time I can post some previews of each faction and what they might have to offer, but it will be a long time before I actually begin work on this mod with the M2TWK system. As of now I just want interest and research, while I read up on the M2TW system so I'm ready when the day comes.

In the mean time please follow the first installment of XRTW and it's progress.

    regards,
    ~ahowl11

Hey man, I hope this works out. Rome: Total war is what got me into the new-age total war series. Bringing a lot of the features of Barbarian Invasion to RTW would be epic. What I'd say is religious traits, ability to produce several kinds of religious buildings, etc. Less of a focus on Rome and more of a focus on everything else that was going on in that time. The first step would most likely be to read tutorials; it's how you get started modding. I've done quite a bit of my mod by myself although once my team joined things were much, much easier. It's not impossible.
Secondly, get support from the community. Even just porting units from Rome: total war could help. Also, Absinthia made some great rosters that are free to use, you can find them here. The Saxon roster could more or less work for the Germanic Tribes (although you will need some other units, there aren't an overly large amount in the pack).
Also, I could probably help you with a bit of research for the Germans. Info about religion, culture, society and warfare etc. The Germans were always my favorite faction since I'm a Germanic pagan.

Yes, right now I'm just seeing if anyone would be interested in the idea. I can't actually port the units from RTW right? Just the models? So I would have to add new textures? What about the animations from RTW? I'm just seeing what is possible/legal. I don't want to be assuming things and get into trouble

You can port models, textures, and animations. You cannot import chariots/war wagons or things like that though. I would recommend downloading Banzai's Animation pack, which has many of the Rome animations, just better.

As far as I know, it is not. Search in the Mod Workshop forums for "importing RTW" and you should find all the answers you need.

I'd be careful. Nearly every MTW2 mod of this time period has been removed from TWC.

honestly i think it is a conspiracy, they try to find the most remote reasons to have them removed, its ridiculous. honestly if you have anything against this time period then just make it against the rules so people don't waste their time. *looks at Toon* poor dude... never saw it coming...

I think you should offer help to the already in progress mods. Besides EBII there is "Bello Mundi". It seems that both are not very far from release. Maybe they could use your help.

Eh, sounds sketchy. The only thing that I could offer is research, basic research at that. I just wanna see a vanilla roman era mod for M2TW. I will check it out, but I would still like to see interest in my idea. And if it gets removed, there are other sites to host it on

Would be a great idea but one suggestion would be to cut the map size down. Make it from Iran to Spain and North Africa to part of Denmark. That way excluding Bactria would allow you an extra faction slot. More barbarians in Spain or Gaul or Germany. Same with Mauyran they can be removed and another barbarian added. More barbarians = more fun. Prevents a large Gaulish empire too early in the game.

Parthians are a must but they can be emergent.

And what did you guys mean every roman era mod has been removed? You talk like its some kind of conspiracy by CA and TWC to remove Roman era mods.

Ignore it. There is no such thing.

Sounds like Roma Surrectum. True more barbarians would be nice, but it depends. Bactria and India played a factor as well. So far there are 11 barbarian factions
