    Default Mouse lag

Not too long back I left my old laptop behind and began playing RTW on a new one...

The campaign map runs smoother and I can fight battles on higher graphical settings than in my old PC.
Everything seems to run better - Everything but the mouse.

I've lowered all the graphical settings to their minimum and even muted the BGM instead of just lowering all the volume and the lag still doesn't get any better.

The mouse lag itself is hardly noticeable, but it has a huge impact in my battle outcomes. The skirmishes at the start of a campaign are usually the exact same every time I play them, but a battle were I'd normally lose 20-30 soldiers now climbs up over the 70's (And even over the 100's!).

I know this issue has been brought up countless times before and that "Solutions" have been handed out already. However none of those seem to work very well, so I was hoping maybe someone would have come up with some better means to fix this problem?

Anyawys, any sort of advice is appreciated. I'm willing to try out nearly anything since I just love RTW too much as to let it go.

Oh and P.S. I'm using the same mouse I had on my old laptop. So the issue wouldn't be the mouse itself. I've also tried using another two we had around the house and those don't seem to make a difference either.

I think it's just the game.
I don't get the 'mouse lag' but I have had it on old computers.
The reason I don't have the lag is because I'm playing on a £1600 gaming computer, I wouldn't expect it.
On a £600 laptop I had 2 years ago the game had mouse lag and the laptop was a decent one (especially for running an old game such as Rome: Total War)

Well, you do know that Rome Total War doesn't run as inefficiently on Windows 7 as it would on XP or Vista? So, it has to do with the system. Maybe if you could install Windows Vista on your new computer? But, I wouldn't go that far until I've bought a new mouse.

So, what I would do is buy a brand-new mouse. Maybe a $20 Logitech wireless mouse, well, it's probably $10 at this point.
I would recommend you try a new mouse instead of ones laying around the house that might not be compatible with Windows 7's operating system.

Should have probably included my OS in my original post. My bad. I am currently running the game in Windows XP.
But either way, the cause of my troubles is the fact that I'm playing on a dual core computer instead of one that uses a single core.
I've known this from the start though. And now I know I should have mentioned it on my first post. I didn't, and I apologize for that.

What I'm looking for is actually a solution, not the cause.

Have you tried opdating your mouse drivers?

Have you tried Microsoft's Intellemouse drivers and try to fool it?

    I'm playing on a quad-core and Win 7 64bit with no trouble.

The Intellimouse drivers work for my four year old generic mouse.

I only receive a message telling me no better software could be found for the hardware (Or something around those lines).

They all seem to be in the same package but I've been fooled before. Pick the one closest to match yours and try it. The worst thing is uninstalling it.
