Quidditch has always been a mainstay of House competition. Many - especially advanced-year students - hold it in higher esteem than even the House Cup, making it the highest pride a House can earn during the school term. The school's pitch was but one of many iconic emblems of the institution that lay in shambles after the Battle of Hogwarts at the conclusion of the Second Wizarding War.
At the resumption of courses the following term, the skeletal remnants of the pitch were cleared away, but more pressing matters, including repairs to the castle itself, kept the stadium from being rebuilt. Students engaged in pick-up matches on school ground, but agitation amongst the student body for a resumption of formal competition finally achieved merit when, in the Spring term, the Ministry of Magic allocated the money and manpower to build the pitch anew. A new season and era of Hogwarts Quidditch is begun.
As teams renew practice in the formal setting, hosting try-outs and regaining match fitness, plans are being made for inter-House competition to resume in full.
