    Default The Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch

Quidditch has always been a mainstay of House competition. Many - especially advanced-year students - hold it in higher esteem than even the House Cup, making it the highest pride a House can earn during the school term. The school's pitch was but one of many iconic emblems of the institution that lay in shambles after the Battle of Hogwarts at the conclusion of the Second Wizarding War.

At the resumption of courses the following term, the skeletal remnants of the pitch were cleared away, but more pressing matters, including repairs to the castle itself, kept the stadium from being rebuilt. Students engaged in pick-up matches on school ground, but agitation amongst the student body for a resumption of formal competition finally achieved merit when, in the Spring term, the Ministry of Magic allocated the money and manpower to build the pitch anew. A new season and era of Hogwarts Quidditch is begun.

As teams renew practice in the formal setting, hosting try-outs and regaining match fitness, plans are being made for inter-House competition to resume in full.

    The Dumbledore Memorial Spring Exhibition

In mid-March, approaching the end of the first term since the conclusion of the Second Wizarding War, the final touches were placed upon the newly rebuilt Memorial Quidditch Pitch. As wizards draped the wooden framework of the stadium with the heraldic banners of the four Houses, preparations were being undertaken for the "christening" of the new stadium - so was born the Dumbledore Memorial Spring Exhibition.

The friendly match was meant to mark the resumption of formal Quidditch play with the air of friendship and cooperation that was Hogwarts - a message made all the more critical here at the beginning of a new era of prosperity and triumph over evil. The staff - some excitedly, some hesitantly - agreed to participate in the name of hope for the future (and to have a good bit of fun reliving their glory days).

And so, the Staff would play the Seventh-Year All-Stars in the first match on the new Memorial Quidditch Pitch.

Fritz gets to the stands early, to get a good seat to pick up new moves that the seventh years use

Arthur arrives in his customary tweed suit, with some pads strapped on on top. However, unlike most of the arrayed players, instead of a broom he carries a long walking stick.

Weatherby set down his gloves to mark his seat in the Gryffindor section, before wandering near Fritz. "About time they opened this thing up. I've been dying to see some Quidditch - listening to matches on the wireless just isn't the same."

    Fritz nods

'Yah, you're right. I'm just saving up money so I can buy my own broom so I can watch the game from the field, not the stands!"

"Same here. I'm going to try to get a second-hand one - don't think I can afford the better ones." He surveyed the pitch for a moment before continuing. "Ah look, here comes Professor Maldow and Professor Baird. Can't wait to see them fly, I'll bet they still have some tricks up their sleeves."

Thomas arrives to the Quidditch Pitch in his old Quidditching clothes. He is holding his broomstick and waiting to see what will happen next.

James arrived, he's slightly annoyed as his firebolt order now won't arrive till next year, but he has the school standard issue, and he's good enough a player to be able to help his team win. At least he hoped he was...

Andrew wandered towards the stadium; taking his place in the Hufflepuff section with a few off his fellow year, discussing the nature of how Patronus's were chosen by their casters.

    "Jinxing Andersen."
    James grinned overhearing the boys,
    "Cursing is just wrong"

    He turned to professor Maldow,
"I shall be seeker, where do you play usually?"

    Thomas looked at the Headmaster
''I'll take my old position as Keeper. It has been a while, but in my last year we the Ravenclaws won the Quidditch Cup.''
Thomas was glad, that he had some experience

Weatherby laughed at the Headmaster's quip. Shyness had prevented him from seeking out the man more in his first year, but he resolved to make their meetings more frequent soon enough. "Good luck out there, Professor Baird."

Weatherby shrugged at Fritz. "Well, I've always fancied Seeker, especially with the position opening up on the Gryffindor side next term - but I'm afraid I'd just be a liability on the pitch, what with me riding whatever chugging monstrosity of a broom I can afford."

'James, I'd like to be a bludger. Behind these horn-rimmed glasses is a fierce warrior.'
    Arthur chuckles.

Professor Gapute walks over wearing a more sportsman like robes than he usually does and his rough hair is visible as he has decided not to bring his turban. By the look on his face he was one of the ones forced to play, as he much rather prefers the flyng carpets of the east to brooms.
"I have never played this game before so tell me what position to play."
