Why are the Gauls so weak in multiplayer battles?

Why were they made into probably the worst faction when in fact they sacked rome and even attacked Macedon?The only reason they were conquered was because they were fighting each other when Caesar attacked and Vercingetorix came to late to save his people. Why are they portrayed as savages when it was the romans who slaughtered 40k Gallic civilians in Avaricum? The only really spectacular unit they have are the Forester Warbands and some decent swordsman, even the Germans get Berserkers and the Britons get chariots.

Well , it's just a game , and mostly focused on Rome and it's families. Don't mess your head with vanilla , get a nice mod and see the true power of the gauls (Rome Total Realism , Roma Surrectum)

I agree with you. But, take a look at Europa Barbarorum instead. In this mod Gauls have some fantastic units and much more complex buildings, etc. Also, I'm writing an AAR with the Arverni using this modification. Its link is in my signature.

vanilla game doesn't correctly depict gauls (or any barbarian faction), in my opinion. As stated by EB team, they depicted them as the classical authors' "unwashed barbarians" point of view.

RTW is a "history inspired" game, not "based on history". Kinda like movies Troy or 300.
