Default Help with getting a new built gaming desktop under 800$!

I have a very limited time until this computer dies. It nearly did 10 minutes ago Startup Repair would not even run!

My mom will buy me a computer that gets built over the internet. I cannot build one myself nor know of anyone who could build one with just parts. Could anyone be kind enough to help with a nice built gaming computer for under 800$ on a legitimate site that ships in the US?

    I have checked out http://www.ibuypower.com/

and seen a few good specials such as this one

    How is it?

Something that runs Total War (particularly Shogun 2) very well on decent graphics I would be very happy with.

I have a monitor I just need the computer itself.

I have no idea what parts are good and which aren't. I will check the guide. I hope this computer will at least last the day.

That's why I copy everything before I click post and it has me logged off. I assume that is happening.

Thanks for making the builds though.

well crazy is probably faster at it than me...p.s i was thinking circa $150 for a screen (22inch..asus or acer, cheapest quad core (intel), a decent mid tower, and cheapest 1.5-2.0gb gpu...plus soundcard and some speakers circa $50, 1 tb hdd or x2 500gb..ram etc etc etc..

will be a squeeze for $800 but nethertheless a lot better than a pre-built.

    $800
    -$100 for OS
    -$125 for a monitor
leaves $575 for parts and shipping keep $25 shipping leaves
    $550 for the rest.

I Forgot about monitor. I have the one I used on my old desktop. So I won't be needing one (or a mouse and keyboard). I actually have two monitors thinking about it.

if i missed anything someone else can deal with it thats the best i can do for now as i need to get back to work

I see now you have a monitor......... sigh

what resolution etc? as going full out on an awesome gpu on a 1280x1024 screen doesnt make alot of sense, but regardless if no monitor is needed thats $118 i can put towards better parts.

    post updated with new parts

A further $10 can be saved by going with a Sapphire 7850 instead. however the Overclocked Gigabyte 7850 should fall somewhere between 6970 / GTX 570 and GTX 580 performance

max settings just keep AA at a decent lvl, and performance should be solid, aka 2xAA + MLAA isnt bad but i just stick to MLAA in game and call it a day, CPU will matter most in Shogun 2 once Melee is joined and a 2500k overclocked is the way to go most of the time but for $800 an i5 2300 + 7870 will max 99% of games and will run Shogun 2 just fine,

maybe whack in a decent cpu cooler to oc cpu (worth installing you can figure out ocing in your own time) and soundcard +speakers. saw some cheapish ones on newegg....well enough to blast out some cannon sounds etc...

    rest is solid.

let us know if you need pc building tips. know a few good ones that make life a bit easier...

My room is usually in the mid 60's (degrees) with the air conditioner. Will that help any? I will probably be able to get a cpu cooler either way they aren't that expensive and neither are the sound cards I checked. I will be using my headset so I don't really need to have speakers.

I checked the guide you posted earlier it all seems easy enough. Looking at it I would probably have the most trouble installing the processor and motherboard.

well an aftermarket cooler can be got for around $50 if you hunt around...can add another 10fps or more onto your perf...

yeah have having a cool room (aircon) will def help keep those temps down but tbh with that case and decent airflow (that's where good cable management comes in) you should have no trouble. google around on utube etc and find videos of simple pc building.

parts that are tricky are in my opinion cpu+heatsink+paste installation, your front panel connections, cable management. but mobo manual tells you where things need to be plugged and just research online as i have said. also read up on booting+os install and necessary progs (gen microsoft download will cover that) that you will need.

if you dont mind headphones not 2 worry but for me a decent soundcard and speakers are a must. your pc can be a good as any hifi...

p.s you can always ask for a decent speaker setup as a xmas present etc etc...not 2 expensive but $50-100 really for anything half decent.

no point in a cooler Totalheadache

notice i picked the i5 2300 they dont overclock remember unless he spends the extra $60-70 on the CPU he will have 0 overclocking for the most part,

the i5 2300 default is 2.8ghz he might be able to push a bit more with some turbo multies but its not going to be fantastic aka best hell get is i5 2400 performance stock. thus no cooler needed, and even a stock intel cooler will let a 2500k hit 4 GHz but again in order to fit the budget i had to use an i5 2300 the slowest of Intels Sandybridge quadcores.
