    Default Punk Rock

Since some of us don't understand what punk rock is, and some of us seem to like it, I figured we might as well have a thread for it. If you think punk is blink182, Green Day, Good Charlotte, etc. then just don't post here.

So... who likes punk music, other than myself?

I hate it. Worst music ever...other than chick-pop or hiphop/rap

    Me, to some extent.

Most of the punk I listen to was introduced by a good friend of mine.

That's a great album. The DK's rock. If you like them, you should check out stuff like Minor Threat and Black Flag.

I need to get some money in me pocket, then I'll be good.(I bought a Led Zeppelin CD today, so I'm all out.)

Before buying though, can I listen to a few songs by them that you reccomend? Don't want to buy something that I don't really know about.

Here's a really old (obviously though, since they were only around in the early 80's) live video of Minor Threat: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zabmdrA_e...Minor%20Threat.
    and Black Flag ( ) : http://youtube.com/watch?v=wHk7zahvD...h=Black%20Flag

That's all I can find right now. If you have msn messenger though, we can discuss further tomorrow.

Fav Bands: Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, The Clash, NOFX, Pennywise, Social Distortion, Bouncing Souls, Rise Against, Anti-Flag, Propagandhi, Descendents, Flogging Molly, Adolescents, Operation Ivy, early Offspring, and Greenday.
Really, really good list. I like all of those bands, with the exception of the Adolescents, but that's because I haven't listened to them.

Does Rage Against The Machine count?
They don't really play punk. It's more like rap-rock, I think.

I like old punk, like The Clash and Crass and the some hardcore bands like Dead Kennedys, but I haven't really heard any new punk bands (as in, bands that aren't on the radio).

IMO, their best stuff is "Good Guys (Don't Wear White)," "Minor Threat," "Salad Days," "Think Again," "In My Eyes," "Screaming At A Wall," "Seeing Red" and "I Don't Wanna Hear It." Some of their stuff isn't as good as some of their other stuff though.

    Not in the slightest
They're more like proto nu-metal. Or Rap-Rock/Rapcore to be more specific.

I tend to prefer music a little less punk inspired really.
Although I do enjoy the Clash and MC5, then bits and pieces of other punk. I can't stand what I refer to as Pop-Punk. It's not quite pop-rock, its more like bands trying to act "punk". Insufferable.

I do like the Offspring though, who I don't tend to place in the same catagory as Blink, Greenday, Good Charlotte etc which make me ill. The Offspring have a very different lyrical stye.

Greg Graffins (of Bad Religion) new solo record is tight, it is folky. The new Rise Against album "The Sufferer and the Witness" is amazing.

Dead Kennedys are alright, but I do not really like punk. A poor musical genre. Punk Rock on the other hand, in the form of the Offspring, Green Day and Jane's Addiction are examples of some of my favourite music.
