So my settlements are getting low public order cuz of something called squalor and corruption. Also, my income is getting low cuz of corruption (saw this in End Turn report)
How can I get rid of this?

I've been asking myself that since i started the game Corruption i think can be reduced by having more generals in your cities, those with good management. Squaler gets cancelled by health bonuses. Baths, aquaducts, sewers, that sort of thing. I think.

Squaler is for your city being dirty, so you need public baths, sewers, aquaducts, temples, and lower population reduces it.
Corruption is a characteristic trait for your army characters, and it seems to be randomly generated. To reduce it, just have a character running a town with good virtues, or have a character with good virtues in the same city as the 'corrupt' character. Also, having armies in foreign lands has an effect.

Law bonuses reduce corruption. Generals with good management traits will only increase the city's income.

squalor is a big problem for all players in vanilla; late in the game you'll have to constantly exterminate the cities with squalor problems because there is simply no other solution; if you still don't want to instal a mod instal this http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...hlight=squalor

That mod is very good , i installed it too. I mean yes , of course if you have Arretium as capital of course public order in Londinium will be low , but even in Segesta 60 % ?

One thing I have noticed unless they have this trait off the bat, all characters will be poor traders and poor taxmen. It also seems not matter what characters can't learn to become good govenors they have to be good govenors as soon as they become of age or they will be terrible and corrupt.

For those of you interested I'd greatly recommend using Barbarossa's Mod Collection found HERE

    FACTION CAMPAIGNS
    * All factions are now playable except for the Senate and the Rebels
    * All factions now have a public order bonus attached to the Government building in any settlement, ranging from 5% for a Governor's House to 25% for an Imperial Palace.
    * The game no longer revolves entirely around Rome, so factions' victory goals are individually tailored to their likely real-life ambitions. Whilst every faction must still conquer 50 provinces, the specific territories that must be included in those 50 now vary from faction to faction. For example the Spanish must conquer 50 provinces while ensuring that their empire includes Baetica, Taranonenis, Hispania and Celtiberia. Victory goals for the Roman families, the Gauls, the Germans and Carthage still include conquering Rome. The Successor kingdoms represented in the game - Macedonia, the Seleucid Empire and Egypt - share the goal of reuniting Alexander's empire by taking Pella, Antioch, Seleucia and Alexandria.

    LANDBRIDGES
New land bridges - narrow stretches of water which can be passed by both ships and armies - have been added to the campaign map to compensate for the poor Naval invasion AI, and to promote the growth of realistic-looking empires that straddle bodies of water.

    TRAITS
Under pure Vanilla, it was very easy for characters to pick up bad traits (especially corruption, expensive living and drinking-related traits) purely from living in a highly developed city or an economically powerful faction. This effectively meant that the player was being punished for success. The trait system has been very slightly tinkered with to moderate this, without in any way detracting from the characterfulness of the game (we still want to get hilariously debauched characters every now and then!)

    TRAIT DESCRIPTIONS (COMMAND/MANAGEMENT/INFLUENCE)
The problem: In pure vanilla, the tooltips that appear when you hold your pointer over a character's command stars, management scrolls or influence wreaths do not reflect that character's ability. For example, a character with one command star is described as a useless general. However, once the first generation of leaders has died off, you are likely to find that the average character has 0-1 stars/scrolls/wreaths. Therefore having one point of management/command/influence really makes you ever so slightly above average in that department - that's why they affect the game positively rather than negatively!
The solution: Tooltip text has been changed so that the scale between zero points and ten points now runs average - genius, rather than complete idiot - genius. Of course you can still get traits like "useless administrator", "bad attacker" etc., but if you have at least one point of ability in those areas then you are deemed to have a basic grasp of what you are doing rather than being a cretin.

In my opinion those would be the most relevant changes, and I'm nearly certain I've left some public opinion bonuses out of that quote.

I think you also forgot the problem with Squalor. Which exterminating the population by letting the city rebel really is probably the only solution once things are maxed out, as someone said in an earlier post.

    True. I did.

And I agree, extermination seems to be the only solution for it. Sewers, Baths, Aqueducts, etc. are hardly of any help and it's usually more convenient to just upgrade your temples.

I don't think Barbarossa's mod has anything included that directly affect Squalor, but the rest of the public order bonuses help make things a lot easier.
Oh. Eastern factions are given the ability to construct buildings that give bonuses to public health.
