    Default Question about units

When it comes to the Romans, it is pretty clear which units are purely Roman and which units are mercenaries or levies from conquered settlements. But when it comes to certain factions (namely the "barbarian" ones), I honestly can't tell which units are more mercenaries than sort of a "backbone" units. I suppose with barbarian factions it doesn't really matter in the long run, but when you are trying to roleplay, it can be a bit of an issue.

What I am asking is if there is a list of sorts that can clearly define which units are more along the lines of staple units for factions versus mercenary units. I have checked the "export_descr_unit" but I have found it rather unhelpful for my purposes.

Another reason I'm interested is because I am considering making some videos of re-enacted historical battles with the Custom Battle mode, and it just wouldn't do to have Cimbri coming at me with mercenaries from the middle east or something (using an extreme example here)

Also, speaking of custom battles, why can't the Roma faction use "regular" (as in not named) Roman Legionary units or Evocatii for custom battles?

if you want to know which unit is mercenary and which not. E.G. playing as the arvernii, compare the unit rooster at Gergovia with the unit rooster at Antioch, if you see that some units are repeated, those are the original units and not mercenary.
what do you mean with regular?

By regular, I mean the legionary units that are recruitable before you acquire the "named" legions.

Well, I'll try and answer your question as simply as possible...last question first.

The Romans have so many units that they will not all fit in the Custom Battle que (the limit is 100). So for every one you put in, something gets dropped off. Did our best to keep the most desired units in their que so people could play with them.

Second. Barbarian units will follow a (more or less) rule of thumb we had to follow because of the unit limitations of EDU (500), which we hit right on the button.
So you will find that purely factional units will be named according to their faction, ie, Belgae Champion. Arverni Heavy Swordsman, Cimbri Infantry, etc.
Every Barbarian faction has 7-8 (or maybe more), either infantry, Missile or cavalry.

Then, you have a unit like the 'Levy Clubman'. This guy is just a universal 'peasant with a club' that they all have. Or, for Celtic factions, you have 'Celtic Light Infantry', or Celtic whatever. These units are specific to Celtic factions (Boii, Arverni, Belgae) in terms of how they recruit them, but also more readily available as AOR units to other factions in their specific 'home' areas.

I had a feeling it was a space issue, but I figured I would ask anyway. And the units with factional names also seemed obvious, but I wanted to be sure.

    I had another question but I forgot..Crap.

My question is pretty similar. Is there a list of the original Units of each fraction? What about a list of mercenary/local units in each region?

I am new in Roma Surrectum. At the moment i think there are 3 classes of units:
    1. Real fraction units (Triari for Romans)
    2. Fraction mercanary Units (Allied Triari for Romans)
    3. Region mercenary Units (like the archers in the two northern Roman provinces)

Am I right? Or are 2 and 3 one class? Are there more classes?

I prefer to play just with a few different units to be able to merge them. For Romans this is more or less easy, but for Free Greeks its ing crazy!

So please dvk901, anwser as complicated as possible. I am sure you have a nice pretty messy excel sheet about this.

In my mind theres two units.
Factional-Can be recruited by your faction alone in your barracks.
    AOR- Everyone can recruit them.

IIRC, the mercenary units are recruited in the "Mercenary Buildings", except for Romans. Main troops are recruited in barracks.
