So I'm playing the European Campaign, as France. I'm near Vienna, and I want Bavaria to join the war against Austrians. At first the Bavarians were thinking that I must be joking, but finally I offered them 2 technologies, lots of regular tribute, and military access. They declared war to Austria. For one turn!!! The following turn I saw that they're already at peace with them, as if nothing happened. And I still have to pay them the regular tribute that I promised! Even though they signed with peace with Austrians at once.

After a while, Hungary faction emerged. I also talked them into declaring war against Austrians (I even had an alliance with Hungary). But those bastards did the same - signed peace with Austria at the next turn!

So I need you guys to balm me. :// Anything like this happened to you? Why are the factions so treacherous? There should be a reputation system as in Medieval! Maybe mods change this?

Maybe reputation is a bit complicated.. there are many possible combination of actions.. and it's difficult to draw the line on what counts as betrayal and not, how grave it is, etc.
Maybe a better idea is to hard-enforce it.. like if you receive something for doing something, you have to still be doing that for 10 turns (etc.).

I suggest you teach those pitiful Bavarians a lesson they won't forget. That'll also be a valuable learning experience for any bystanding nations yet unsure about their allegiances. Vive l'empereur!

You can trust only your protectorates for joing or declaring war against your enemies.

Thanks for the replies. I actually was mad at was thinking of teaching the Bavarians their last lesson, but I was just too busy by the Austrians.

And yeah, I noticed that protectorates are men of their word.

By the way, great idea, marshal, I think we should suggest this to CA.

This is one of the reason I don't use protectorate much, since they can declare war againt your own allied and force you to decide a hard choice of who you'll be allied with.

But I understand that some people prefer having a small-focused empire rather than a large underdeveloped empire ( such as Austria). but still. think ahead before you make any protectorate.
