Icon5 Do you consider bribery a cheap option?

Because in my VH/VH Julii Campaign (my first vh/vh) I'm in the civil war and Brutii and Scipii are besiging Rome. I sent a diplomat and bribed them both to my side. Getting two full stacks was good but it felt like a cheap option.

So, do the rest of you think it's cheap?

If you over-do it it is I think. But bribing in limits can save your life and your campaign

Hmm, I'll ask the full stack of Britannia, and the other stack of Scipii troops how they feel about it. "Well you paid use 23k denars and we are 2300 so about 1k denars each, that is a nice retirement." Really it doesn't matter just don't bribe entire countries...

Nope, the AI constantly tries it on the player, and when you take Egypt's ENDLESS stacks in the east into account, I dare say it is a very fair option to use

I don't like bribing, but part of that's because I don't find it efficient. Better to make a couple of armies and go stomping with them than rely of getting an army to bribe that hopefully doesn't have a general with bribe cost-increasing traits.

Hell no. Two additional Roman stacks to aid in your civil war...

I did that to them, too.
Well, I was playing as Brutii and I bribed the big S.P.Q.R Army, and took Rome with ease afterwards. Then bribed Scipii's and Julii's massive armies that were probably gonna attack me. (This was from my first campaign I ever did).

It once cost me 18k to bribe 5 units of rebel romans in bi. I tend to be an economic powerhouse, but i burn through every penny. I don't usually have enough spare change for bribing. I agree 100% with genius. Much more efficient to just kill them all.

nah ... that's the main reason for bribing, I don't want to fight endless battles with the AI full stacks, it gets really boring

Depending on the faction you are using, bribing enemies can be the difference between carrying on or having to reload an earlier save file. Some factions start with so many encroaching enemies that it is hard to fend them off with force. You have to use a bit of bribery and trickery to survive, or at least use those tactics until you are ready with full military might.

    I love Diplomats.

Really? I think them pointless... usually i'll race around getting trade rights first bit of the game, but when that first diplomat dies of old age i'll never recruit another

I did the same in my jullii campaign , when i had about 40 regions (spain + most of western europe + britannia ) i was asked that leader suicide thing , didn't accept to do it and started civil war. Scipii were not a problem , they were fighting the egyptians with their main army and most of brutti armies were lead by captains and since i had about 2 millions in my treasury i made about 20 diplomats and bribed everything in my may , spies , assains , diplomats , armies , family member , including even cities. When everything was done , i had 167 denarii left ).

I generally only bribe if I am besieged and have no armies nearby. Otherwise, I take the battles instead....

Bribery is a part of war. And if you've developed your nation to be a successful economic power then I see no reason why you shouldn't put that wealth to use.
