Tech issue installing M2TW and Kingdoms help please !

Well I am hoping someone can help me out here, I went to direct2drive to RE DL my copies of Medieval 2 total war and kingdoms exspansion, low and behold the site is now Gamefly property.

I DL'd the ridiculous beta client so I could DL my games again and I was able to DL TW2 and it is installed through there "Steam like" system. I then had to DL kingdoms as a seperate zip file since they havent added everything to there odd operation.

Heres my issue. I extract the kingdoms zip the M2TW should be 1.3 versions on the DL I then try to install kingdoms and I get "Setup has detected that no version of M2TW is installed on this system." Well it is and im at a loss now, Never in my life have I ever had this much of an issue with D2D but now gamefly ..."shudders"


I pray someone here may know of a way to get this to work I have tried right clicking and installing as Admin still to no prevail and the only way to install the original M2TW is thorugh their crap client.

Any help is VERY APPRECIATED at this point Ive been trying to get TATW so I can play it but alas the game gods are not happy with me it seems lol.

Did you uninstall the game before trying to reinstall? Or to phrase this question another way - did you have the game installed on that system prior to re-downloading from D2D?

I am not familiar with the D2D download or Gamefly but bear with me. Can you tell if the .zip is similar to those you've downloaded before?

I'm having issues with this site but I'll try to ask a Mod to move this to Tech Help - better answers there. If you don't see it there by tomorrow then report this post to Mod and ask for the move yourself. Good luck!

Hey thanks for the responses, this is the current situation,

-I did not have the game installed prior to DLing it from the Gamefly people. Due to a system restore I did.
- When I DL'd Medieval 2 total war the original game it was DL'd and installed through their "Steam like" gamefly beta client.
- When I DL'd Kingdoms though I had to go into my purchase history and it is a normal .zip file that I had to DL.
-I then extract the contents and run the setup and it comes back with "setup cannot find a version of medieval 2 total war" etc
- I contacted Gamefly I changed compatibility to service pack 2 for Win7 "Per gamefly tech support" and then changed it also as run as Admin for all users and compatibility also for all users. I Uninstalled the game prior to doing this then did it again after reinstalling.
- I reinstalled Medieval 2 total war again and then ran the kingdoms setup again still same error msg.
Gamefly now will not return my emails regarding this matter.

I just find it weird how they make me install the original through their client yet I have to DL a seperate zip for kingdoms. I am so angry at gamefly at this point. They threw some tech advice at me and since it didnt work their ignoring me haha.

Ok. I have two points from what you've posted to ask about:

• After looking at that .zip file it's a bit too generic. It has the .cab files but this old game is very temperamental. It doesn't like "flavor" of the game that doesn't match completely. As this is still a SEGA product ,and you can't get Gamefly to respond, then try contacting SEGA Support and asking them for the cure. I have a feeling that there just isn't something kosher about the download you've received for M2 and Kingdoms. The Amazon download has similar problems....
• It's not too suspicious that the Kingdoms would be a .zip file. But what doesn't work for me is that it doesn't seem to work for you. That leads me to think there's a conflict elsewhere. I can't say for certain where though. If you find out please come back and let us know - we're interested in the answer.

Unfortunately I have the same problem, and... I have bad news I've been searching high and low for a fix, and tried everything, uninstall, regclean, reinstall, wash, rinse, repeat...

Finally yesterday I received this reply from Gamefly:

"Hi Brandon,

Thank you for contacting us and I'm sorry for any delay in our response.

While your purchase of Medieval 2: Total War is offered on the GameFly Client, Kingdoms is not ready yet. Unfortunately they are not compatible with the file offered on the D2D Download Tab. It will require the expansions to be available to download via the GameFly Client.

Thank you for your patience as we work as quickly as possible to upload those titles to the GameFly Client.

My question is, why would they offer the Kingdoms download if it won't even work with their copy of M2TW!?

So let me get this straight. They're more than willing to sell you the Kingdoms Expansion pack and take your money but they don't have the files uploaded to their client yet? This borders on fraud.

If they don't get it up soon demand that your money be returned ASAP. Or you can do a chargeback on the credit card you used.

I would give them one more chance just for fairness sake even after they've abused you but not gently. Good luck!

www.direct2drive.com is the website still currently it just redirects you to a gamefly site after logging in.

Can you start a campaign in Medieval2?

If so, in theOptions page, what is the version number?

The only way I install the for the last four has been with the UAC disabled including Vista and logged in as Administrator.

Both have been known to play with the game.

What did you do a system restore if I may ask?

hey noxide , could you tell me what you did after you extracted the files how did you get the setup and things im really stuck and any help from you or anyone would be much appreciated
