    Default Office of Milo Forsyth

The Transfiguration office, Professor McGonagall's office before she retired last year, is located on the first floor of the Defence against the Dark Arts Tower. Anyone who whishes to talk to professor Forsyth can knock on the door and wait for an answer. No visitors allowed starting with 15 minutes until bedtime.

Weatherby, after a long afternoon with his head buried in his hands when it wasn't buried in a book, knocked on Professor Forsyth's door.

-Come on in. Oh, hello Weatherby, have a seat, said the professor pointing to a cozy chair.

    -What's wrong?

As he said that, Weatherby gave a shy look and left in a hurry.

Weatherby Wiggins, fresh off of the summer holiday, returned to Professor Forsyth's office and knocked upon the door. Memories of struggles last year spurred him to be more proactive in his education for the coming term.

A knock was heard at the door of Professor Forsyth. This visit had been long overdue...but now that he was to be around in the grounds more, Viktor decided to pay a visit.

Weatherby stepped aside as the important-looking man approached the office. He nodded his head respectfully before parking in a chair near the door, not wanting to interrupt any important Hogwarts-related business. His questions for Professor Forsyth could wait.

Going to the door, Professor Milo opened it and saw just the one person he's been trying to talk to.

-What a surprise, sir. I didn't expect your coming. Come on in, please.

    Viktor walks into the office.

With the recent events in the Forbidden Forest...I must visit the grounds more often to keep an Acromantula's activity.

-Ah, Acromantulas. I heard what happened, but I still have some, I don't know how to put it, I don't know how this happened. What I wanted to talk to you last year was with a species closely related to Acromantulas - I am talking about the Quintapeds. Fortunately, they are only found on the Isle of Drear and nowhere else.

My question is this...how did you find out how to keep them more calm? These creatures are vicious and savage.

-Well, the best way to keep them calm is to let them be. Also, it helps if you keep them happy - by providing them food, that is. I understand that providing them with food and shelter, as exemplified by Hagrid, is the best way to keep them friendly, or at least neutral towards you. Since Acromantulas are capable of speaking human language, I think that powerful and accomplished wizards that also bring them food might be successful in whatever endeavor they wish with Acromantulas. Also, a good defense against spider-like creatures, and this is true to almost all creatures, is conjuring the element they fear the most - either fire, water, wind or sheer earth pressure. In this case, I think that fire should do the trick. Also, try not to send fire on them from the first time they are aggresive, but towards the trees near them, towards their environment. They should fear you, not hate you.

Interesting...however, I must say this. Acromantula's have only one known fear...snakes. Any snake is seen as an offspring of the Basilisk, their mortal enemy. Quintapeds are naturally hostile to humans, they desire human flesh above all other things. Thus there is a flaw in your logic there. Lastly, it is rare to come in contact with them...the Isle of Drear is nigh impossible to navigate.

Viktor leans back in his chair, pondering.

However...giving them human flesh would probably keep them calm. They are naturally hostile to any human because they have a particular taste for humans.

-Yes, I understand what you are saying, but you didn't listen to me. I said a good defense against almost all creatures would be conjuring elements. Yes, Acromantulas fear snakes, but I am not talking about fears and ilogical things. This is a method, one that probably has some flaws and requires some bits of luck, but one that was proved at least partially effective. Also, raw strength also works with any animal - it's the reason Giants don't have natural enemies. So I am not talking about fears, but about effective measures.

Getting up and walking up and down the room, Milo continued:

-Quintapeds, on the other hand, are misunderstood. I've spent a good part of my last 4 years studying and learning about them and I've reached the conclusion that they are wild, but manageable. They fear the water that surrounds them, that's why they aren't found on other islands. My home is on the Isle of Drear, so I can tell you that this is based on first-hand observations and experiments.

And yes, giving them human flesh would probably keep them calm, not something that can be said about the humans providing it!
said Milo with a good laugh.

Wait...you lived in an Unplottable area? How could you have lived there with the Quintapeds there? That place has been deemed Unplottable by the Ministry of Magic and it is impossible to transport to and from there due to that reason.

Viktor sighs lightly, rubbing his head.

These beasts are unmanageable. The McClivert Family tried to transform them back...but the entire clan was massacred by these creatures. They have resisted all known attempts to be Untransfigured and are unable to communicate with us. Its amazing you could study them for four years without being torn to shreds...

-Wow, I think you are confusing Unplottable with something else. Hogwarts is Unplottable but look how many people live here, not to mention all the logistics involved. As for the transport, it has nothing to do with a place being made Unplottable - there's another spell that makes Apparition possible and that spell was not cast on the Isle of Drear. I know that because when I started studying these creatures I had a long list of questions answered by your predecessor - after all, my study there was for the benefit of your department.

-Ah, I think you are right in the most part. One such attempt, and the latest, was my own. I can say that since they are beasts and because this is how they were born, the myth surrounding their creation is not true. And as far as I can tell, I think the McClivert Family was either full of nutcases or that family never existed.

-As for being torn to shreds, I must say that my home was in the safe zone of the island and that I've put every bit of precaution and every bit of protective spell to defend myself from the other side. But apparently, the cliff that separates the two parts of the island is the best defence.

-I imagine that you read my report, the one I sent at the end of my study and now you want to see the actual situation, is it not?

-Hold that thought for a minute, I think there's a student at the door.

Walking to the door and opening it, the professor was surprised seeing Sidious:

-Ah, Sidious, what do you need?

Sidiosu looked at the professor. Ah, professor Forsyth, I was wondering would you indulge me in a few theoretical conundrums I have?
