    Default Guide my campaign!

    Hello all!

    I'm an avid player of SPQR-TW, so let me begin by thanking lt1956 for the formidable job of creating this mod.

    Some days ago I started a new campaign in SPQR 8.0. It's now the year 210BC, I've secured the whole of Italy, and am about to close my border with Gaul. My economy is getting in second gear, and I'm having less trouble paying for legions. Capua just finished building the academy with which I'm able to recruit Princeps and Triarii. I do try to play according to lt's houserules.

    So with this post I wondered if anyone wanted to help make me decide on my next move? I try to follow Rome's historical expansion. I hesitate between the following:

    - Invade Sicily (highly tempting, extra income can come in handy);
    - Invade western Greece (might be challenging and fun);
    - Go straight for Carthage in Spain (I'm quite impatient for Marius' reforms);

    Maybe someone has other ideas also?

    Once I continue playing I'll post some updates.

    Here is an idea of my current game; you can see 3 legions defending the border with Gaul. I've got a fourth one guarding mainland Italy against any possible invasions. For this occasion I used toggle_fow, but I play with the fog of war.

    I also make use of garnier's excellent (!) kill sheet:

    Very nice! Looks promising!
    There is a not so obvious benefit of taking Sicily early, and that is the grain supplies there, which gets distributed through trade routes to nearby cities, boosting population growth.
    You might eventually want to take Salona or other provinces from the Greeks/Macedonians, but I think your main focus should be getting further west, taking the islands and Iberia to secure more trade routes and mines.

    Good luck, looking forward to updates

    Thanks for your input Ejergard.

    Allright, so I decided on invading Sicily. My finances permitted me 2 more legions, which I happily built (VI and XIV), this time replacing one slinger with velites, for the elephants!

    I took Messana by surprise. I have garrison script on, but town watch and iberian infantry were no match for my mercenaries.

    I don't know if my tactics are against house rules? I let my main legions take the impact of any incoming enemy troops. Meanwhile, a small stack mercenary army (general led) puts siege to the city, and tries to take it (when attacking I put a main legion as reinforcement (no AI) which I may use when the mercenaries aren't sufficient.)

    Here's a screenschot of current situation in Sicily (note that Messana is empty, but is currently training a garrison - 4 town watch and velites).

    stay tuned, more will follow!

    Because Rome faces odds that are impossible for the AI to handle.
    This mod was made to be played as Rome, and Rome alone
    (although other factions are somewhat playable, but with negative effects like that)
