    Default Trait gain rate?

How difficult is it to get command traits/retinues through battle? Is it more difficult than in normal RTW? I fought in 3 clear victories and 1 heroic victory against the Free Peoples, capturing each settlement, but never did I get a message after the battles, "Retinue Expands", telling me what trait/retinue my general received.
I do have a retinue, "Famous Warrior +1 Command" and trait "Bloody +1 Command", but I also have "Procrastinator -1 Command" and I now realized I have a star that I didn't notice on my general when I first began my campaign. I may have missed reading those messages at the beginning of the turn that tell you what traits/retinues your generals may have gained naturally overtime. Though I'm still not sure if those +commands I got were natural occuring and not from battle. Probably 3/4 of those battles were fairly large. Could it possibly do with the enemy being the Free People?

I'm playing as Cimbri, with the RTW engine.

Command Stars are alot harder to get than in Vanilla. You need to be outnumbered 2-1 to get one usually.

I don't know. I fought in a couple more battles, and I did receive another command star. I wasn't outnumbered either time, maybe by a unit or two.

I've found it takes a lifetime of toil to get an excellent commander. Not a big deal actually and it makes great commanders all the more valuable. Although I do think it should be a touch easier to get 1 - 2 stars it's not a particular issue that comes up when I"m playing.

Hah, yeah, all the better to the advantage. Once you've got a good commander, it'll help alot when you're battling multiple stacks. You'll always be a cut above. I find that it's easier getting traits when you're actually fighting the battles, instead of auto-resolving each time.

Yeah I couldn't tell you the exact rate sorry :/ All I know is I use one general per theatre/region to do the heavy lifting and continually reorganize a stack to be more or less full up. By continually using the same guy he eventually becomes great. I know that's a pretty weak answer but it's all I know. Focus on one guy per region instead of fighting battles with a ton of generals and having a bunch of mediocre ones.

Unless you absolutely know you're going to lose! lol. Then feel free to send in some profit turning wimp to take any possible negative rep. That's how I roleplay. I'm not into that historical simulation stuff. I just want to kill barbarians like I've got the ark of the covenant in my baggage train.

Is there a way to turn AI off when you're in a battle with two stacks on your side? Friendly AI is killing me. My best general, Vannius, has now turned into Vannius "The Coward" because my allied army decided to throw him directly ahead of the men into combat. And of course, he routed.

If you put one of your battle-groups under AI control you can turn it on and off. However, the only choice for reinforcements is to decide pre-battle. If you want reinforcements to fight under the AI's control, rather than act to directly replace your troops when the leave, then take the general away.

LOL. Indeed. Generals gaining stars and fame were\are designed in RS2 to be played exactly as you state CTD_or_Bust. A great General in RS2 will BE a great General...not just one of 45 others whol just killed off a few slave stacks in Italy while they sipped wine and played Nintendo.
