Default US Soldier dies saving Afgan child.

    Link.

After the news of a U.S. soldier charged with murdering Afghan civilians, mostly women and children, the story of Spc. Dennis Weichel of the Rhode Island National Guard bears telling.
The official Pentagon news release says he died "from injuries suffered in a noncombat related incident." But there is much more to the story. Weichel, 29, of Providence, died saving the life of a little girl.
    RIP Weichel.

Behold, there are American soldiers dying to save Afgan children. While we have been criticizing Americans for their ill acts, it is good to know there are noble acts.
    In tribute to concerned friends:

Well I'll be damned, one of the stories about the GOOD things american soldiers do is up. So over/under on how many posts it takes for this to become another "America is teh evul empire!" thread?

Yeah, because a guy running amok and killing 20 people deserves equal attention to a guy who saved a girl.

To be fair: Americans are educated with civilized values and thus everyone, including the western media, expect them to behave civilized. Which they do, generally.

Funny thing is, this sort of sarcasm actually shows YOU making the logical leap that you're making fun of.

Your statement implies: "You said it on the internet, therefore it's not true."
The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State. - James Madison

A US soldiers job isn't to kill everything that moves you know, honestly there are HUNDREDS of stories like this one, easily. The only difference is that it doesn't paint the US as some evil empire, and its soldiers as the most evil spawn of satan there could ever be.

If America was in the business of killing people in Afghanistan there wouldn't be people in Afghanistan. Obviously America is in the business of helping people.

The rest of the world doesn't have a stomach for putting their soldiers on the line for those ideals.

The UK, Canada, the Netherlands, and Denmark has...

Anyway if ISAFs goal was to slaughter civilians then it would be a pretty depopulated area by now... as you mentioned...

Lol. Of course. Only American soldiers are in Afghanistan, no one else (like, for example, germany).

Nope sorry. Those are just Americans disguised as American allied forces

Anyway seriously, I am glad that something like this was reported. While there are plenty of noble acts by American soldiers (that outweigh the bad acts), it is nice to hear about one at least once in a while

Also people don't join the army because they are die hard patriots. There are plenty of reasons such as employment, sense of adventure, a feeling of debt to your country etc.

Too bad German politicians don't have the stomach for deploying combat troops in Helmand... You know, where they're actually needed.

Weichel is survived by his parents, his fiancee and three children. His family will be awarded a Bronze Star and other awards for his sacrifice.
    Damn.

    RIP.

To a brave man, and all those like him. Though they make the ultimate sacrifice, let them be remembered.
