Hi guys i am playing as the scipii in a rome total war campaign on medium/hard difficulty and now i'm stuck.

As you can see , i conquered southern greece that is currently a cash flower , western africa , a big part of iberia , sicily and most of the nearby islands. Money or public is not my problem
WAR WITH EGYPT is my problem. Since i started my war , i take my time to train my legions while egypt just hurls hordes and hordes of pharaons guard wich in phalanx are almost invincible. Don't worry , the super-army you see in the image to aid Sardis will loose at least 3/4 of its units next turn. No matter what strategy i apply , the egyptians just keep pushing and pushing and i am barely holding. I tried using auto-resolve but it only makes matters worse , because of that chariot advantage. I don't really have many options for expansion, because the brutii rule almost everything worth taking.
Any suggestions, how can i defeat these annoying dudes?

Ask for peace with them, capture more regions surrounding Egypt, then attack them? and if you have that much money they shouldnt be any problem at all. Frankly I am surprised you are having this problem.

If you can get a force to take and assault their provinces right away in the heartland, because apparently they usually leave crap for garrisons.

Scorched earth might be a good option, as above keep those armies busy while you hit their heartlands, break their trade up, destroy their towns, loot, destroy buildings and steamroll until they sue for peace. Then give them back their destitute provinces in return for being a vassal, if you're feeling nice

I'll give Vanquisher's option ago , i think i will board some ships with two stacks and send one army to jerusalem and the other provinces and the other in Alexandria and the others there. Those seem to be their richest cities, and if i'm lucky without their heartlands they will like ask for peace.

Yes, then rebuild your army, embark on your ships, then destroy every building you can and let the city revolt or get captured by the enemy.

And bribe. Bribes work wonders

haven't played RTW in a while, but IIRC pharaos guard have '5' shield in their stats although the unit model doesn't show any kind of shield


and for Alexanderos: dude, use diplomats to bribe their armies if they keep defeating you, you have 1,6 mils ffs

I know exactly how you feel mate I had to give up my Parthian campaign because of them. I'd destroy a huge army, only to see another coming

Why not recruit some onagers? Wonderful for flaming at a phalanx.
Recruit some mercenary hoplites in Greece. Not as good as Pharaoh's guards but very good for poking in the sides.
And spend some of that money on diplomatic bribing. You might even be able to bribe a city or two.

I have a question. When i bribe an army ,where does to money go? To the respective faction , Egypt in my case? If that is so , i would only help them by doing that. I have reviewed the financial status , they are way too low because of their huge armies.

The money doesn´t go to egypt.

The commander of the army gets the money, and then changes sides because of it. He will keep it till he dies, and it is just taken out of the game.

Nautical incursion: Raid, piliage and burn the Egyptians homelands with a stack. Once the Nile valley is sent back to the stone age so will your foe...

Egypt is reknowned for its very high happiness, which allows it to have very low garrisons. This, coupled with an excellent economy, allows them to field large numbers of quality troops at the front. And ideally (for Egypt) that front will always be wide open desert.

Do not fight Egypt's war.

1.) Ensure you have naval superiority. Eradicate the Mediterranean of Egyptian vessels. Blocade all Egypt's ports.

2.) Load a stack onto a boat and land it on Egypt's coast, then drive straight through the heartland, sacking every city you come to and (if nothing else) leaving it to rebel. Make Egypt fight Rebel troops, on a depleted economy, to take back their own cities; instead of fighting on your territory

3.) Try to pick terrain that is not out in the open. Trees (not abundant in the desert) and rocks (much more abundant) really screw up the chariot. Hilly and rocky terrain is ideal.

4.) Bridge battles should also be a joy for you if you bring the right mix of troops (see points 6., 8. and 9).

5.) The Egyptians -SUCK- at siege warfare; so try to get them to fight you in cities.

6.) Get more archers. You should have at least four units in a stack. I usually bring about six units. Flaming Pigs are useless, so you can trade in that one for your third archer unit. Trade in a unit or two of infantry for more archers, and you are there.

7.) Know the mechanics of chariots: They get 3 or 4 hitpoints but NO (or virtually no) armor. So, if your archers can target them, do not be dismayed if you initially get no kills. you are wearing away hitpoints, and all of a sudden the chariots will start dropping like flies. Until then, keep your horses far away from chariots, unless it is to lure them in close to your archers (which is a very good tactic).

8.) Legionary Cohort are very mean hombres. (I think that is what you have got. If not, and those are ELC, upgrade if you've hit the reforms.) If you are losing with Cohort, you are doing something very wrong. You should be able to string them out thinly enough to engage the entire phalanx line, and have enough left over to run around the flanks and hit the end units in the backs/sides.

9.) A siege unit would be nice also.

10.) A possible dirty trick would be to let them have your Turkish possessions while you fuel up to hit them in the underbelly. Meanwhile, the only target they have left (if you keep their navy demolished), is Brutii possessions. In fact, maybe you should gift one of your Turkish territories to the Brutii now? It would be nice to have the Brutii help bashing in the Egyptian skull...

What is the situation like at the southern portion of the map? If Egypt is weak in the south, you might be able to take some of their important settlements like Alexandria. I think someone said that Egypt sucks at siege battles, so keep them at bay while they waste troops trying to your cities.

Imo, you have enough cavalry to completely envelope whatever chariots the Egyptians should have. Have one legionary hold down a phalanx, then cycle charge with your remaining Roman Cav. The bulk of the army is phalanxes, so try to get all the phalanxes to fight in a close proximity to ensure a mass route. Focus the general.

As advised above, fight siege battles. Pharaoh pikemen are only good on the ground. When climbing the walls, in a hand to hand combat, your legionares will win definitely.

Thanks for the advices guys. I managed to get two stacks going and send them from greece to alexandria , then conquered everything around, and guess what ? Someone here was right , there was like a family member and a pharaohs bowmen in like every city so it was a piece of cake. While doing that , i managed to fight of most of the egyptian forces in their south , with some bribing of course !
